NEWS AND INFO FOR WILDCAT STAFF 1.7
AFFIRMATION OF THE WEEK
We are so grateful for the belief, commitment, connection, execution, and integrity our amazing Price family have shown to each other and our students. We are excited about what is next! As we enter second semester, let's do so with a renewed focus on consistency, high academic and cultural expectations, and data-driven instruction. We must maximize every second of time to help our students achieve all that they are capable of.
Remember that not every student had a happy holiday break. Many of our students may have been in difficult, dangerous, abusive, or neglectful situations. Be sure to welcome all of your students with smiles, a positive attitude, and a fresh outlook.
Here are a few after-holiday ideas:
- Greet each student with something positive you remember from first semester.
- Create New Year's Resolutions as a class. Students can also create their own school-related resolutions.
- Have students self reflect on the first semester (journal, blog, vlog, etc.) This is NOT meant to be used as an opportunity to remind students of mistakes they made in the first semester.
- Have students analyze their academic/behavior data and set goals.
- Give students a copy of their standards. Let them use their benchmark score to highlight standards they've mastered based on their results.
- Got other ideas? Share them with us! The first 5 people to send me an idea will win a prize!
PBL TIMELINE - YOU ARE HERE
As we begin the 3rd quarter, we will take the first couple of weeks to finish any Benchmark testing for students who were chronically absent, develop PBL plans, and revisit standards from the 1st semester.
Should Already Be Complete:
- Revised Scope and Sequence for Second Semester
PBL To Do This Week:
- Meet with your team to begin developing your 3rd quarter project idea.
Instructional Resource of the Week
What is Class Hook?
"TV shows and movies often contain scenes that discuss topics such as Science, Math, Art, Music, and more. While funny and amusing, these scenes also have valid educational merit.
Such scenes not only teach students but also make learning more relevant. Students can associate a concept in class to an image they see in their everyday lives. Bringing television shows and movies to your classroom helps connect students' personal lives to the concepts they are learning in class. As a result, content retention increases, and learning becomes more fun.
But what if you wanted to find these educational scenes?
Even with available search tools such as Google and YouTube, it is very difficult to do so. That's where ClassHook comes in. All you have to know is the topic you'll be teaching in class, and you'll be able to find an engaging clip that hooks your students in while educating them at the same time.
What else should I know about ClassHook?
- We're an incredibly friendly team, so don't hesitate to drop us a note for any reason. We'd love to hear from you!
- Our grand vision is to develop a more knowledgeable society by best utilizing the time spent in class. Imagine if every student learned one new fact in every single class as a result of paying more attention throughout their schooling. They'll have learned so much more!
- Many of our clips are vetted by teachers through our Clip Vetter Program.
- We actively maintain our library of clips and replace any broken links. This means that a link to a clip on ClassHook is more reliable than a link to a clip on YouTube. When a YouTube clip goes down, it's gone. When we notice a broken link on ClassHook, we make our best effort to replace it, sometimes spending over an hour to find a replacement."
