During the meeting.....
Dr. Scott Smith presented the board with a proposed calendar for the 2019-2020 school year. The calendar committee worked with Dr. Smith to build in inclement weather days for the upcoming school year. By doing so, we can establish without change what days school will be in and out of session as well as a definite end date. With the makeup days built in, the calendar will still have 170 days of school and 180 days for certified staff. This will not affect contracted employee's salaries. Options are being considered to address any negative impact on hourly employees. The board approved a first read of the calendar as presented and Dr. Smith requested the board and staff to bring back feedback they receive about the calendar change.
Due to the recent purchase of a school bus, the board declared bus #7 to be surplus, and as such will be sold or disposed of in accordance with board policy.
The board reviewed policy GCPB which outlines consequences for certified staff who give late resignation from a contracted position. The board approved the first reading of this proposed policy.
A request for bids was sent to companies who design band uniforms with a due date for proposals of January 7th. One bid was received and the board decided to move forward with the purchase to replace the band's current 18 year old uniforms.
School board filing is open until 5 pm on January 15th for the April 2019 election. As of today three candidates have filed: incumbents Dot Schoening and Mike Pratte, as well as newcomer Tim Schulte.
In closed session, the board approved the graduation of Hermann High School students who met all requirements to graduate early in December 2018. The board also approved the hiring of Timothy "Chip" Stutzman as the new principal of Hermann High School as of July 1, 2019. Mr. Stutzman was formerly a Bearcat and is currently serving as High School Principal in New Haven. We welcome Chip back to the Bearcat staff!
