A Weekly Update from Perkiomen Valley Middle School East
A Word From Dr. Clune
Dear PV East Parents,
It was wonderful to see so many parents out for Meet The Teacher Night. We really enjoyed meeting with you and sharing about our wonderful school. We are looking forward to an amazing year of growth, learning, and fun! We had a great time celebrating our 25th Anniversary by forming 25! on the practice field.
Next week our students will be taking the Math and Reading Link It Assessments. We will run a special schedule so that students can take the assessment first thing every morning. There is more information further down in this newsletter.
Wednesday is also Picture Day. There is a Picture Re-take Day on November 11th. Please read the attached flyer below. Come out to our Outdoor Movie Night with your family that evening.
There are several clubs that are sharing information. These include Cooking Club, Art Club, PVTV, Ursinus Project, and Spring Musical. Please check out our Activities page on our website. You can email the advisor of any club listed.

STAR and LINKIT Assessments
The STAR Assessments by Renaissance, STAR Reading and STAR Math, are comprehensive literacy and math universal screeners that are computer adaptive. These assessments will provide teachers with current, reliable and valid data quickly so they can target instruction, monitor progress, provide students with instructional materials, and intervene and enrich where needed. Student reports will be provided to families after each assessment.
The LinkIt! Benchmark assessments help teachers determine student progress on specific topics in Language Arts and Math that are expected learning in a particular grade level/course. The LinkIt! assessments indicate progress on state standards, assisting teachers to target areas of instruction.
LinkIt! Benchmarks will occur a minimum of two times during the school year.
The following provides parents with more information on the STAR Assessments and the LinkIt! Benchmarks and how they are used
Parents Guide to STAR Assessments
Maximizing instructional time for our students is paramount and performance data supports our teaching staff in designing more purposeful and targeted instruction. Our goal is to make sure that every child is on target for success, and we thank you for your continued efforts at home.
Sincerely,

Student ID Badges
Students are required to wear their ID badges every day while they are in the building. In addition to helping us identify them, they are also needed to purchase food in the cafeteria and check out books in the library. Once students have their photo taken, new ID badges will be issued with the current grade level listed.

PV Athletics Update
At our recent home football games, administration has observed the need for greater oversight of our elementary and middle school students. For the remainder of the football season, Middle School Students MUST be accompanied by an adult to gain entry into the game. Student safety is our highest priority and we appreciate your support.

Nurse's Notes
HEALTH EXAMS: Please remember that 6th grade students require a physical examination and 7th grade students require a dental examination. If your child has had these examinations, please be sure to send a copy to the Nurse's office. Forms are available on the PV website. Your cooperation with this is most appreciated!
SCOLIOSIS SCREENING: School law requires that a screening for scoliosis be performed on all children in grade 7. The Perkiomen Valley School District will conduct a scoliosis screening program beginning September 6, 2022. The purpose of the screening program is to detect possible curvature of the spine in children. If the condition is detected early and appropriately treated, progressive spinal deformity may be prevented. All grade 7 students are scheduled to be screened.
The screening test is very simple and can be performed in less than a minute. The school nurse will check your child’s back by observing it while your child is standing and bending forward. You will be contacted if there is any reason to have your child examined by your pediatrician, family physician, or orthopedist.
Your cooperation is essential to help us make the program run smoothly. If you have any objections to having your child participate in the screening program, please inform the school nurse in writing by September 2, 2022.
MEDICATIONS: If your child has been diagnosed with a life-threatening allergy, seizures or asthma AND requires emergency medication, please be sure to bring the medication to school with the appropriate forms completed by the physician. Forms can be found on the PV website.
Please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child. I can be reached at 610-409-8580 or emailed at tespersen@pvsd.org
