Elementary Science Instruction
Ideally, Amanda would like to see a minimum of 5,000 minutes per year (30 mins per day). Jennifer Smith recommends 90 mins per day for math and Amy Anderson recommends 60 minutes per day for reading and 60 mins per day for writing. It does not have to be done every day but must be done for the week. The DIP states that we will increase the amount of time dedicated to science instruction.
How do we ensure that it is happening? Each group reviewed how they plan to accommodate this increase. Suggestions were: adjust schedules ELA block/math block, integrate more science into each subject, or add science into the rotation of CAMP. We have got to have this dedicated time for science instruction. It is an expectation. We have got to ensure this is happening. It cannot get squeezed out. We have to make the commitment as a leadership team that we are teaching it.

TASB Salary Study
We were compared to similar districts for some positions and to the local market for others such as custodians, technology, grounds, etc. TASB recommends increasing year zero teacher salary and adjust up to 25 year teachers then moving to a GPI raise (flat dollar amount raise instead of percent and make one time equity adjustments for teachers 12 years and below.) However, we have finite resources and still have to decide how to use those resources.
Teachers are on steps by law. Non-teachers are not on steps, which leads to greater disparity. They also do not have access to stipends, extra hours, etc. The new recommendations are based on minimum, midpoint and maximum salary. Most of our folks are below the midpoint. We would want to get to 90-110% of the midpoint. We could move from annual increase to a percent increase from the midpoint. We need to decide what we are going to do. No decisions have been made yet nor will they be before the end of school. State funding will have a lot to do with our decision.

Last Day for Elementary/Intermediate Campuses
Principals will be out at the Symposium, that day and there will not be coverage at some campuses. The question was asked if all elementary and intermediates are ok with closing that day. The answer was yes. Therefore, we will close the Friday before. This does not change the last contract day, but the office will not be open. You are still accountable for that last day. Employees should either work, use comp time or a personal day, etc.
