MSD MARSHALS
Safety & security are shared values in the Medford School District and always a priority. We do not take lightly the privilege and responsibility of caring for and educating your children.
A new partnership with Medford Police will begin this spring. The MSD School Marshal Program will provide dedicated security in our elementary schools and complement our school resource officers, who are primarily housed in middle and high schools.
Here’s some information about the program, which Grants Pass School District has had great success with over the years:
- Marshals are recently retired law enforcement officers who are armed but do not wear uniforms.
- Part of the effectiveness of the program is that they blend into the school community and can respond quickly to a variety of security incidents.
- They will have a home school, but they will also rotate hours and locations daily.
- We will phase them in until we have one-to-one coverage for all elementary schools.
- They will be trained in security assessments, serve as certified ALICE instructors, and be a great resource for staff to leverage for space specific concerns and training.
We plan to have three Marshals this spring that will rotate schools and increase the number each year, with the goal of covering each elementary school.
KENNEDY'S GOT TALENT!
Kennedy's Got Talent returns to the stage on May 18th! This year our Patriots will be showcasing their talents on the North Medford Auditorium stage at 6:30 pm!
If your child will be performing in Kennedy's Got Talent, please keep your eye out for rehearsal information coming home with your performer.
OSAS STATE TESTING
WILL YOUR CHILD BE ABSENT DUE TO ILLNESS?
Please notify the office if your child will be absent due to illness. If a student has a temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher in the last 24 hours without fever-reducing medication, has a persistent cough, difficulty breathing, new loss of taste or smell, an undiagnosed rash, has vomited or had diarrhea within the last 48 hours they should not be in school.
AFTER-SCHOOL PLANS CHANGE?
We understand that after-school plans might change regarding how your student will get home. We ask that you call the school office before 2:00 pm (M, T, Th, F) and 12:30 pm (W) to ensure we get a note to the teacher/student about the change in a timely manner. Please also make sure that whoever will be picking up your child is listed on their emergency contact list and that the office has been notified.
