Causes Of The War
At 9:40 February,15 an explosion In Havana Harbor occur. Two-hundred fifty-two sailors died trapped in the ship Maine. Fifty-nine of the men that survived were sent to Key West, twelve other men looked for dead bodies, other twenty-five men were so badly injured that they could not be removed. The number of dead was two-hundred fifty-three and of survivors was ninety-six.

The battle of Manila Bay was one of two major American naval victories in the Spanish-American war, both of which were very important. It occurred on the morning of May 1, 1898 a few days after war had been declared between Spain and the United States .
