ALPHA GAMMA DELTA NEWS

FIRST SEMESTER UPDATE

Happy January to My Alpha Gam Sisters!

This fall, I had the pleasure of stepping into the role as the Alumnae Relations Team Advisor for the Epsilon Omega Chapter of AGD. My Alpha Gamma Delta memories from college are easily some of my fondest memories. My hope for this position is to see the relationship between collegiate members and alumnae members grow. Along with the Alumnae Relations Chair and her committee, we are committed to improving communication and strengthening the partnership between actives and alumnae. This twice yearly e-newsletter is the first step. We are also working on creating a website exclusively for alumnae members of Epsilon Omega. Additionally, we want to hear from you! Tell us what information you need and how we can help you feel more connected to our Chapter. Email us at eoagdalum@gmail.com with your comments and suggestions.

Alpha Gam Always,

Niki Birdsill Buesse (Fall '02)

SPRING RECRUITMENT

In December, we had 6 members make the transition to Alumnae so we will be looking for 6 to 7 new members in spring 2016. The first week back at school, January 12th through the 15th, there will be publicity tables in the SUB and in Missouri Hall to share information about our awesome sisterhood! Recruitment will run from January 19th to the 22nd with Bid day occurring on Saturday, January 23rd. Lunch, dinner, and coffee dates will be planned for all four days as well as some more structured, activity-based events. One event will be a philanthropy crafting night where girls will make inspirational canvases for young girls with diabetes. Our chapter will then work with Boxes of Joy for Diabetics to have them distributed. If you would like to recommend a girl who you think would fit our chapter well or would like to write a letter of recommendation for a girl, please feel free to contact Lydia Davis, VPR at ljd6321@truman.edu.

Social - Groovy Jams and Winter Formal

The second annual Skate Date Groovy Jams was a total success this past fall! Us Alpha Gams love to skate so much that Leisure World ran out of skates for all of us and our dates! After all the skates were checked out, we moved on over to do a little bowling too.

Formal was just as crowded as normal! It was held at the Shrine Club which allowed us to be classy but not too fancy. Appetizers were catered and cupcakes were supplied by the mother of one of our sisters. We had great music, tables to sit at, and a painted banner for pictures. Overall, we had some great social events this semester!

Scholarship

AGD's are working hard in the classroom! Last spring, our chapter’s average GPA was 3.23, which is higher than Truman State University’s average GPA. We had many members placed on the President’s or VPAA’s List! We also had 57 members each Strive for Pi last spring. The Vice President of Scholarship is currently waiting on this past semester’s scholarship information.

What's New In Housing?

The Chapter Room was painted “Sand Dollar” over winter break and an FHC staff member will be coming during the spring semester to measure the room and select furniture. We are hoping to receive a purpose wall, new cubbies in the kitchen, and all new furniture. The Chapter Room should be redecorated by the end of January (fingers crossed)! Pictures coming soon!

The First Pearls Project Update

The members of the Fall 2015 pledge class, along with the Epsilon Omega Advisors, would like to thank each alumnae member who participated in The First Pearls Project by becoming a Pearl Sister. Each new member received their gift of pearls along with a congratulatory note on the morning of their Initiation. It was a very inspiring portion of the Initiation day that the Chapter hopes more alumnae have an opportunity to be a part of. Some great connections were formed through this project, ones that we hope continue. Alpha Gamma Delta has a rich history and tradition that is meant to be shared between both active and alumnae members. Sisterhood in Alpha Gamma Delta is not just a four-year commitment, it is a relationship and connection that lasts a lifetime. Participation in The First Pearls Project serves to confirm that connection and strengthens those bonds. Roses to the beautiful pearls and the beautiful alumnae who participated.
