KB Classroom Update 17

April 22, 2016

Parent Update

Hello everyone, we hope you are all set for Spring Break! Before we send you off, check out what our KB friends have been up to these past couple of weeks. We had such a blast traveling to Lagos, Nigeria as we learned about the different culture through the language, songs, clothing, and more. We also celebrated Earth Day by learning information about how we can protect and love our Earth. Have a wonderful vacation and we hope it is a time where you can relax, refresh, and renew. Get ready to end the year with a bang!

Español with Ms. Rosado

KB is growing muy rápido (really fast) en Español. We continue to explore the immersion through Total Physical response, theater, and songs. We introduce our new unit Crecer (Growing) by learning shapes (cuadrado, rectángulo, triángulo y círculo) and sizes (GRANDE o pequeño), how to identify them and how to “act” like them. We removed our big classroom carpet and moved around the world of shapes we created by outlining the different geometrical figures with tape on the floor. We loved to play enano, GIGANTE (BIG and small) and to sing the primavera song. Please continue to support our process, by singing at home and playing games in Spanish.

Muchas Gracias,

Ms. Rosado

Music with Ms. Raccio

Spring is Finally Here! To celebrate, KB musicians are learning about the Circle of Life through songs about butterflies! Watch the video below to take a look at our KB students work on keeping a steady beat while singing songs about the changes that occur in the lifecycle of a butterfly. Also, make sure to check out the pictures and videos from Karaoke Party, celebrating all the hard work we did throughout the second semester!

Art with Ms. Walsh

Greetings from Lagos, Nigeria! Another International Trip! IRO OHUN! ("Wow" in Yoruba). Kinder artists explored Lagos from the air. They saw beaches, the cityscape, and a soccer game and some traditional drumming. Additionally, they investigated the Yoruba people who are known for their beading and carved wooden sculptures. In ART, they beaded faux coral necklaces and rolled, pinched, and carved clay sculpture of figures inspired by the wooden ones they saw in Lagos. Be on the look out for K artists’ very own helicopter. They have been designing and building it for quite some time. Hopefully, it will be ready after vacation so we can do some “puddle jumping” in India. E DUPE (Many thanks in Yoruba) to all the parents who volunteered to help us celebrate Nigeria! We couldn’t make the trip without you!

  • For our next Growth Unit, students will be inquiring about life cycles. As part of our study, we will be visiting the Queens Farm. YAY! We are going on our second field trip this Tuesday, May 3rd from 9:15-1:30pm. We would like three parents to accompany our class to the farm. Please see the link below to sign up. Thank you!
  • Our next stop is New Dehli, India. Our next stop is India! In order to get there, we need to solve 137,600 math problems as a school. We can only arrive to our destination if our mathematicians are completing at least 29 problems per day! Please encourage your child to solve these problems on paper and bring those papers to school to turn into the fueling station.

  • In hopes of having our students be good citizens not only in the classroom but also outside of the classroom, we are going to begin: 1) incorporating situations into our daily role playing of different scenarios and also 2) give shout-outs at the end of the day during closing circle. Please email us different scenarios you want us to reenact, as well as examples of praise-worthy shout-outs...small or big!
