OPE students have Integrity!
Dear Families,
What a whirlwind of a start to the school year it has been so far! Despite the many changes and obstacles we have faced as a building, our students and staff have been nothing shy of amazing in their teamwork and learning this past week and a half. What a joy it is to walk into classrooms and see students engaged in meaningful learning experiences, participating and actively discussing new ideas with one another, and building connections with peers and staff members. I have been able to meet and connect with several students in every grade level and believe that we truly have some of the best kids around!
This month, we are learning about the character trait of Integrity. Our staff is keeping eyes out for students who demonstrate integrity in their every day endeavors, leading by example, and conducting themselves in a safe, respectful and responsible manner. In October, we will be starting up our Student Leadership group and inviting students to participate in leadership and service opportunities around the school.
Parent Pick Up and Drop Off has improved greatly since day one. Thank you for helping us to keep a steady flow by pulling all the way forward and utilizing the designated parking spaces if you need to park and exit your vehicle.
Now that we are two weeks into school, we want to remind families that if your child arrives to school after 7:55am, please bring them to the front doors/main entry of Otto Petersen. Our office staff will check students in and ensure they arrive to class safely.
If you or your child are sick or not feeling well and are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, please do not send him/her to school. As we continue to maintain and enforce safety measures throughout our building, we ask for your cooperation and teamwork in helping us to keep kids in school and healthy!
Thank you for your support and flexibility as we have navigated the start to the 2021-2022 school year. It really is a pleasure to be a part of the team who gets to work with your children each day!
Respectfully,
Jenneca Crocker

Hello OPE Families,
I wanted to say how great it has been to see all your students in the building. We have had a great start to the year! This month I have been visiting classrooms to go over my role as a school counselor and getting to know all the students here at OPE. It has been fun meeting them all!
September Character Trait of the Month is Integrity: We have been talking about integrity, what it means, why it’s important, and how to get better at it! Learning happens best when it is done both at school and home. Below are many ways to help your child continue to learn about the theme of integrity by reading about it, talking about it, and practicing it!
Read about it:
*The Cloud Spinner by Michael Catchpool
* Winners Take All by Fred Bowen
* Mr. Peabody’s Apples by Madonna
* Jamaica’s Find by Juanita Hall
September is Attendance Awareness Month. Here are some helpful hints to help create a positive outlook on attending school daily, even on zoom or completing packet work if your student is quarantine. These tips can help with any school situation.
Did you know?
Missing 10%, or about two days each month over a school year, can make it harder to learn to read.
Students can still fall behind if they miss just one or two days every few weeks.
Being late to school may lead to poor attendance.
Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school and themselves. Start building this habit early, so they learn that going to school on time every day is essential.

Thank you so much for those of you who were able to join our first meeting of the year!
Remember, if you would like to participate, our parent organization meets on the second Tuesday of every month, from 7:00 to about 8:00 pm. We are currently holding the meetings through Zoom (see the link below).
We are also currently seeking volunteers for our first fundraiser of the year. In October, we will be advertising our annual Mo's Clam Chowder sales. This is a wonderful fundraiser, mostly because we are selling a great, local product, and it requires very little work on our part. However, we need several volunteers to help unload, sort, and distribute the bags of chowder. If you would like to help, please email ottopetersenpresident@gmail.com. Here are the dates and times if you are interested.
Mo's drop-off: October 28th, time TBD
Order pick-up (drive-thru event): November 4th, 3:00-5:00 pm.
Please be sure to visit and/or join our Facebook group @ottopetersenparentorganization or on Instagram @ottopetersenparents.
