We hope you are staying warm and healthy! Despite the dreary weather this weekend, we have many fun and exciting activities happening at Dryden to make our days merry and bright over the next couple weeks. We are very thankful for the PTA and our staff's efforts to create a joyful and festive climate throughout our school community throughout the month of December!

At Dryden, we FLIP for good choices! The Dryden staff is on the lookout for students going above and beyond in big and small ways to make a positive impact on their school community. These Dolphin sightings are recognized during the morning announcements on Fridays. The students above were recognized for showing persistence, helping others, and taking care of their school environment. Winter Wonderland Pajama Day, December 17

We look forward to resuming Winter Wonderland Pajama Day at Dryden on Friday, December 17! We thank the PTA for engaging our students in fun crafts and activities on this special day. This year, our students will be creating 3-D snowmen. Students are invited to come dressed in their cozy winter pajamas as we transition to a relaxing Winter Break together.

Health Update

There have recently been a few reported cases of flu at Dryden. The Cook County Department of Public Health recommends that when you have symptoms to get tested for COVID-19 and influenza. Handwashing and proper mask-wearing inside school are more important than ever. We appreciate your help in reminding your children the following:

  • Wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds or more

  • Do not to touch your mouth and eyes

  • Wear your mask over your mouth and nose

  • Maintain 3 feet of distance while inside school (“chicken-wing” elbows apart)

We continue to sanitize classrooms and wipe down surfaces to help our school stay safe and healthy.

December MAP

Students in kindergarten through fifth grade across our school district are participating in the winter MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) assessments. Classroom teachers have shared specific testing dates and times. Reports will be sent home via backpack mail on Friday, January 14.

Erin's Law Presentations, January - February

Erin’s Law, or Illinois Public Act 097-­1147, requires public schools to provide child sexual abuse prevention education for children in pre­kindergarten through twelfth grades. Dryden Social Worker Caroline Sorrentino will be visiting each classroom during the months of January and February to provide a presentation. Classroom teachers will communicate specific dates and times. More information about Erin's Law presentations can be found on the district website or by clicking here.


Parents have the right to opt their child out of participating in the yearly Erin’s Law presentation. A new form is required for each school year. To opt out, please complete this form and return it to the classroom teacher at least three days prior to the scheduled presentation. Students will participate in an alternate activity outside the classroom.

PTA Cocoa Bomb Orders, due December 12

Pre-order now to add some chocolaty cheer to your December! Follow the link to pre-order Cocoa Bombs from Berry Yo, $20 for a package of 4. When ordering, you will have the choice of three package options with different flavors. Orders will be available for pickup at the Dazzling Light Display on December 19 between 5:00 and 8:00 pm.

PTA Dazzling Light Display, December 19

It’s back! The drive-through holiday light show in front of Dryden school will return on December 19 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm! Bring the whole family to enjoy this festive experience! Families must remain in their cars at the display. There will be stops set up to drop off new PJ sets for The Pajama Project and to pick up pre-ordered cocoa bombs. See you there!

PTA Pajama Drive, December 19

This holiday, PTA is collecting brand new pajama sets for children who are facing adversity via The Pajama Program. The Pajama Program works to “ensure that all children have a good night,” in spite of challenges they may be facing, including losing a loved one, new foster care placement, inadequate or unsafe housing, homelessness or violence in the home. The Pajama Program only accepts brand new, unused and complete pajama sets (tops and bottoms), sizes newborn through adult XXXL. Bring your set of pajamas for donation to the Dazzling Light Display on December 19 between 5:00 and 8:00 pm.

Dryden PTA Family Day with the Chicago Wolves, January 9

Join Dryden students, families, and friends at a Chicago Wolves hockey game on Sunday, January 9 at 3:00 pm as the Wolves battle the Cleveland Monsters. Everyone who attends will receive a free Chicago Wolves hat, and everyone from Dryden will be seated together.
