Miss Cleasby's 4K News

News for the week of November 17th

Turkey Theme

Our theme for the next week and a half is Turkeys and Thanksgiving. We will be making a triangle turkey art project and a "Where is Turkey" book. We will also be talking about our families and what we are "thankful" for! Next week Tuesday, November 26th is our Thanksgiving Feast.

Jolly Phonics

Our Jolly Phonics letters of the week are "C" and "K". We are teaching the C and the K at the same time because they make the same sound. The action for the C and K letter sound is raising your hands together as if playing castanets and saying /ck/ /ck/ /ck/. See the Jolly Phonics C and K videos below.

Upcoming Events

*Please mark your calendars for a special parent/child craft night in February. The craft night will be held on Tuesday, February 10th at the Elementary School cafeteria from 6:00- 7:00pm. All three 4K classes will be combined for this fun event. We will be making a valentine craft and singing a few songs :) We thought it would be nice to have a get together in February when life is a little less hectic than around the holidays. More information to come about this fun event!

*The week of December 1st we will begin a unit on "The Gingerbread Man". We will be reading many of the different versions and comparing them in class. We will also be participating in a "Gingerbread Exchange" where we will decorate 20 different paper gingerbread men and we will be sending them to different Pre-K classes around the United States. We will send them out by December 3rd and then we will begin receiving different gingerbread men from other classes. This will be a fun activity that is also an introduction to geography, as we will be pointing out different states on the map that our gingerbread men arrived from.

Traveling Backpacks

* In January we will be starting our "Traveling Backpack" program for families that sign up. There will be more information to come on these neat bags filled with wonderful learning activities to do at home with your child. Planning ahead, we are looking for one person per class ( 1 for my a.m. class and 1 for my p.m. class) to volunteer every Tuesday for approximately 30 minutes. This person would go through the traveling backpacks and check in the items to get them ready to send out with the next group of students. Please contact Miss Cleasby if you are or know anyone who might be interested.

*Next week Tuesday, November 25th is our Thanksgiving Feast. I sent home reminders slips for people who volunteered to be a helper or send an item to class. Please let me know if you are unable do what you signed up for. Thanks! :)

* No School next Thursday and Friday (November 27th and 28th) due to Thanksgiving Break!

* The "Disguised Turkey" family art project is due tomorrow. We will be putting up the disguised turkeys on our wall to admire!
