Principal News
Falcon Famlies,
Welcome back to another great year at Jefferson Elementary. We are off to a great start and the students are already settling in and experimenting with their learning and social abilities. It really is a great time in life! As you know, I am a strong believer in "Love and Logic" and I will continue to include good articles in my comments when I see them.
Think about what your answer is to the following question.
Has my parenting caught up with technology, or am I stuck in the
“Middle Ages” when people used phones hooked to cords and web addresses were inhabited by arachnids?
While the basics of parenting remain the same, issues involving technology have left many parents wondering what limits are appropriate, how to hold their children accountable for misuse of technology, and how to help kids learn the decision-making skills required to make healthy technology choices when they leave home.
There’s good news! While these modern issues are definitely challenging, we can achieve success by applying some age-old parenting truths:
• Kids need limits. • Limits are best set through actions instead of hollow threats. • When kids make poor decisions, they need to experience natural or logical consequences. • Consequences are always more effective when provided with loving empathy. • Our kids will learn how to live their lives by watching us.
Listed below are a few examples of essential limits:
• You may have your tablet as long as there is no arguing when I ask you to shut it off. • Feel free to have a cell phone when you can pay for the entire cost. • We allow kids to have their internet-connectable devices as long as they check them in with us each night. We’ll return them in the morning as long as there are no problems. • I’ve met plenty of good people who’ve ended up doing bad things on the internet. That’s why your mom has all of my passwords and is free to see my history. You may have this device as long as you do the same. Everyone needs someone to hold them accountable. • I’m shutting my phone off so that I can give you 100% of my attention. Thanks for doing the same
My favorite saying is "Parenting is not for sissies!" Judging from my own parenting experience, it can be very difficult to hold to the line when our children tell us over and over what "their friends" are able to do. Stick to your guns and the payoff will come! Have a great September!
Jefferson is a Title 1 School
Our programs give students not only the additional supports to assist in catching up with grade level peers, but also add enrichment opportunities. Our curriculum is tightly aligned with the Common Core Standards. We utilize the funding to pay for school-wide interventionists who work alongside classroom teachers. They perform small group interventions in reading and math. Our interventionists have been busy collecting individual baseline data in the areas of reading, writing, and math. This data will help us determine the type of interventions students may need and the type of progress monitoring we need to perform to measure their growth.

Plan on Visiting Jefferson?????
Dear Boise School District Parent/Guardian:
Boise School District is pleased to announce that we will begin using a new state-of-the art security visitor management system known as the Raptor Visitor Management System in all of our schools to strengthen our program of campus safety for students and faculty. Part of keeping students and faculty safe is knowing who is in our schools at all times, and the Raptor system will allow us to do that. The Raptor system will better allow us to screen visitors in our schools and provide us with a safer environment for our students and staff.
Upon entering a district building, visitors will be asked to present an ID such as a Driver’s License, which can either be scanned or manually entered into the system. If a parent or guardian for any reason does not have a US government-issued ID, the school staff member can use any form of photo identification and manually enter the person’s name into the Raptor system. Once entry is approved, Raptor will issue a badge that identifies the visitor, the date, and the purpose of his/her visit. A visitor’s badge will not be necessary for those who visit our schools simply to drop off an item in the office or pick up paperwork. Once your identification is scanned at one of our school sites, it will not need to be scanned again; however, identification will still be required so we may manually create a visitor badge for each of your next visits to a school site. Just let the front desk know your ID was already scanned before.
The safety of our students is our highest priority and the Raptor visitor management system allows us to quickly identify those that may present a danger to our students. Thank you in advance for your understanding and your support in enhancing the school safety protocols in your Boise School District.
