TEKS Standards
Every curriculum unit for our core content subject areas are based on our Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills or TEKS that the State of Texas requires all schools to teach students. These standards outline the major focus of our lessons and activities. The link below will take you to the Lead4Ward website that has all of the content standards for each one of our core content classes by grade level.

6th Grade Math - Students will begin Unit 6 with the focus on relationships between fractions, decimals, and percents. The TEKS that will be covered are 6.4EFG and 6.5C.

7th Grade Math
7th Grade Math - Students will begin unit 6 which focuses on data analysis. The TEKS focus of the unit is 7.12ABC, 7.6FG. These TEKS require students to analyze data in multiple forms.

7th Grade ELA
7th Grade ELA - The reading unit focus will be novel reading and analysis. Students will be focused on writing expository essays based on focused prompts. Students will also engage in revising and editing various passages along with their own personal expository writing (TEKS - 7.14ABCDE).

7th Grade Texas History (U.S. History Unit)
7th Grade - Students will be engaged in activities that focus on the Texas Revolution, Republic, and Statehood. Students will focus on the causes of the Texas Revolution and the events that led to Texas becoming its own independent nation.

8th Grade Math
8th Grade Math - 8th Grade Students will continue to focus on Pythagorean Theorem. Students will observe how Pythagorean Theorem can be used to determine the distance between two points on a coordinate plane. Later, students will examine how to determine if a given triangle is a right triangle using the converse of Pythagorean Theorem. (TEKS, 8.7C, 8.7D).

Algebra - Students will focus on standard A.5C, solving systems of linear equations. Students will use graphing, substitution, or elimination methods to solve real-world problems involving two equations.

8th Grade ELA - The reading unit focus will be on non-fiction texts. Students will begin their non-fiction focus on literary non-fiction. (TEKS - 8.7A, 8.7Fig19D, 8.7Fig19E).

8th Grade Science
8th Grade - The students will begin unit 7 which focuses on Earth's cycles. The initial lessons will target day and night cycles and season cycles. (TEKS 8.7A).

8th Grade U.S. History
8th Grade - Students will be engaged in activities that focus on the Age of Jackson and Westward Expansion. Students will focus on Andrew Jackson's election and presidency.
