LATE STARTS 5/18, 5/25; Remember NO Late Starts in June

Many thanks for all of your support, kind words and participation in celebrating our wonderful educators.

School Volunteers Needed

We have wonderful events at Northwood. Please consider volunteering for events or as a leader on a committee. Maybe co-chair with a friend.

Donate your spare change to a great cause. See the tube in the office. THANKS!
Boy Scout Flyer

The deadline was 5/13. If you missed the deadline. Print a form and get it in Monday by noon. Thanks.

Enroll NOW/Spread the Word

If you have an incoming Kindergarten student please enroll them as soon as possible. This will help with class size and staffing in our building. Also make sure that anyone you know in the Northwood attendance area with a Kindergarten student knows about enrollment. Think about your neighbors. Any new neighbors that need to enroll should be told about the enrollment information on our webpage. THANKS.

*If you use the drop off lane you should not exit your vehicle. Thank you.

*DO NOT drop students off in the passing lane.

*Please remind students not to pass through the bushes. We have had a few insect nests removed and we continue to monitor.

*Any issues with Safety Squad should be directed to Mrs. Ashburn or Mrs. Hughes, not the children. Thank you.

*Attendance and Tardies: Reminder that more than 15 of each is considered excessive in a school year by district policy.

Students will be taking the Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress (MSTEP) this spring. The M-STEP will include summative assessments designed to measure student growth effectively for today’s students. English language arts and mathematics will be assessed in grades 3–8, science in grades 4 and 7, and social studies in grades 5 and 8. It also includes the Michigan Merit Examination in 11th grade, which consists of a college entrance exam, work skills assessment, and M-STEP summative assessments in English language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.

3rd graders test window is April 25 - May 13

4th graders test window is May 9 - May 26

5th graders test window is April 11 - April 29

Whenever possible, please avoid scheduling appointments during the school day within your child's testing window.

MDE made available two new training videos explaining how to navigate the ELA and mathematics computer adaptive tests (CAT) on the M-STEP website. If you haven’t had a chance to view these videos, here are the direct links to the videos:

Food Service Accounts

By using parent portal, families are able to view the transactions in their children’s food service accounts. You can see deposits, purchases, and the balance available in the account. If you need assistance logging into parent portal, you can contact the secretary or Ms. Angela Smith ( or 435-8400, ext. 1216). If you have questions about the transactions you review in parent portal, after checking with your child to be sure they did not make a purchase about which they forgot to inform you (I’ve raised three kids!), contact Ms. Kim Stoid in our food services department at 435-8500, ext. 1123. She will be able to assist you.

Special Education Parent Advisory Committee

Royal Oak Schools has a Special Education Parent Advisory Committee (PAC). The next meeting of our PAC is scheduled for Thursday, March 24, 2016, at our District Offices, 800 DeVillen Ave. Royal Oak, MI 48073. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:45 p.m. A meeting on Tuesday, May 31, 2016, is also scheduled. To learn more about the PAC, including how to follow PAC activities on Facebook, visit the PAC website.
