Animals
The animals in this time period were enormous mammoths, giant bison, woolly rhinoceros, which were well adapted to the cold. These animals were prayed upon by sabre tooth tigers, cave bears, and wolves. Europe and North America the mammoth steppes were largely replaced by forest. This changed in climate and food resources.
Here are some of the animals that used to be here on Earth including the Mammoth and the sabre tooth tiger
Climate
The entire Quaternary Period, including the present, is referred to as an Ice Age due to the presence of at least one permanent ice sheet (Antarctica). But the Pleistocene Epoch was generally much drier and colder than the present time.
Ice Age
An ice age is a period of long-term reduction in the temperature of Earth's surface and atmosphere, resulting in the presence or expansion of continental and polar ice sheets and alpine glaciers. The time period that began about 1.8 million years ago and lasted until about 11,700 years ago.
Mammoth
The woolly mammoth was found roaming the bitter Arctic tundra where they would often gather in large herds for both warmth and protection.Due to the sheer size of the woolly mammoth, it had only one real predator in it's natural environment which was sabre toothed cats that would often hunt the smaller woolly mammoth calves.Believed to be closely related to the modern-day elephant, the woolly mammoth remained in the wild until roughly 1700 BC when it became extinct.
Sabre tooth tiger
The sabre toothed tiger is one of the most well-known prehistoric animals along with giants such as the woolly mammoth. Sabre toothed tigers roamed the mid-western US and parts of both North and South America. It became extinct in the Quaternary period(the end of the dinosaur period) and during the ice age.The sabre toothed tiger is one of the best known ice-age animals but little is really known about them as they are thought to have become extinct around 10,000BC which is a long time ago.
