Dear Everitt Families:

November is starting out well!

You may have noticed that our doors looked a little strange on Monday. The construction crews are finishing some final projects for our remodel. Some of our new doors were installed this week and they've started building our secure entry vestibule. The new entry will be on the south side of the building and you should soon see new signage directing you to the new entrance on those white posts. The crew anticipates being finished with the doors and the vestibule next week.

We have a spirit week next week! You can find the information about the dress up days below. Thanks to Sources of Strength for this fun idea!

Several years ago I lost one of my best friends to cancer. She died just before Christmas and I noticed a change in myself in how I felt going into the holidays the year after she died. Over the last several years, I have started writing gratitude posts each day in November about what I’m grateful for. Researchers have long studied the effect of gratitude on the brain. In one study, a group was asked to write one letter of gratitude to another person each week. After four weeks, the group reported significantly better mental health. Perhaps this practice can make a difference for you and for your children as well as we move into November.

Thank you for supporting and believing in your neighborhood school. It is our privilege to partner with you!

Vaping Information

Vaping continues to be a trend among middle school and high school students. Approximately 5% of middle schoolers and 20% of high schoolers have tried vaping. Today, 7th grade science did a lesson on the dangers of vaping. We wanted to share information with parents and guardians as well. Here is a link to a website that can help guide discussions with your children at home.

Our next Everitt Information Night (formerly Jump to the Middle) will be on December 1st from 5:30-6:30 pm and will be virtual. It will be a time to hear from a student panel about what being an Everitt student is like, to hear from the 6th grade teams and elective teachers about what classes are like, and to hear from administrators and counselors about what Everitt is like as a whole. Please let your friends and neighbors know!

Our administrators and Sources of Strength students will provide tours to interested families from 1:15-1:45 pm through the rest of the semester. You can call the main office at Everitt to sign up for a time or you can just come and we will accommodate you!

GT Family Book Study Groups

Jeffco’s GT Social Emotional Learning Counselors (GT SELCS) will be holding monthly Parent/Family Book Study Groups for the 2021-22 school year. These groups provide opportunities for families to learn about their GT child(ren) and connect with other parents/families who understand the unique joys and challenges of raising GT kids.

Battle of the Books!

We are very excited to participate in the reading challenge, The Battle of the Books! All students are encouraged to participate. This link will take you to some information about how to get involved.

From Our Nurse: At Home Screening for COVID-19

Any student diagnosed with COVID-19 or who is a close contact of a COVID-19 case should not go to school and should isolate or quarantine according to public health recommendations regardless of current symptoms.

This symptom screen refers only to new symptoms or a change in usual symptoms. A student should not be kept home for usual symptoms they experience due to a chronic condition unless they are worse than usual. These guidelines are in addition to your regular school guidance (for example, a child with vomiting should also not attend school based on school guidance).

If your child is experiencing any potentially life-threatening symptoms, please call 911.

Symptom Screen:

If any of the following symptoms are present, keep the child at home, inform the school of symptoms, and reach out to a health care provider about COVID-19 testing and next steps for treatment.

  • feeling feverish, having chills, or temperature 100.4 degrees or higher
  • new or unexplained persistent cough
  • shortness of breath
  • difficulty breathing
  • loss of taste or smell
  • fatigue
  • muscle aches
  • headache
  • sore throat
  • nausea or vomiting
  • diarrhea
  • runny nose or congestion
