Week of January 21 - 25, 2019
Dr. Liz Power's Special Needs in the Library Presentation
Important Changes to the 2019 Teen Video Challenge (TVC)
Please review this information from Sharon B. Phillips at the New York State Library, Division of Library Development:
- There will be 5 national winners (teens will submit videos directly to the national judging panel without having to go through State Reps).
- Each of the 5 winning teens/teen teams will receive a $200 cash prize and the winners' local libraries will each receive a $50 gift certificate from Upstart.
- The program will accept submissions June 1-Aug 2, 2019, so that the program can be incorporated more easily into summer programs. This can be a great opportunity for public libraries to partner with schools and school libraries with video production classes or clubs; students can be encouraged to produce the TVC videos as a class project and submit them in June through their local public library.
- Video uploads will not be limited to YouTube and Vimeo; rather, teens can upload their creations to the social media outlet of their choice.
These changes were crafted to make the contest simpler for states and for libraries in each state to promote and administer, and to simplify the process for teens to enter. Hopefully these changes will boost interest and participation in the TVC contest and make it more accessible for all involved.
An overview about TVC 2019 is also included in the CSLP Teen Manual on pages 33-35.
Soon there will be additional resources about the 2019 TVC on the CSLP website at www.cslpreads.org for librarians to use for promoting the contest to teens, including the submission form, a program logo, flyer, social media blurbs, and additional tools.
