Grant Opportunity: Olweus!
Oakland Mediation Center is excited to announce a grant opportunity that allows schools in Oakland County to implement the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program for three years. Your assistance in getting this information out to local schools is requested and very much appreciated! I have attached the grant application as well as outlined some of the details below. Grant Summary: Through the efforts of Oakland Mediation Center’s (OMC) Fund Development Committee and generous donors, OMC is announcing a funding opportunity for the purpose of implementing the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program (OBPP) in five schools located in Oakland County for a minimum of three years. The grant includes training, 18 school months of consultation, and all program materials for 3 years. OBPP has been shown to reduce bullying behavior, reduce antisocial behavior, and increase school climate.

This professional learning event is part of a comprehensive approach to help district staff create a multi-tiered system of support . It will be of particular value to those involved in creating socio-emotional and behavioral support for students with Tier-2 needs. Participants will learn ways to think about Tier-2 needs and to develop various practical & field-tested procedures & interventions will be discussed. At completion participants will be able to evaluate & to adjust existing strategies & interventions, and/or create their own individualized plan for identifying and supporting students with Tier-2 needs.

All teachers want their students to be engaged, motivated and self-reliant. This 2-day event, was developed using Randy Sprick’s Safe and Civil School. Participants will consider important elements around the structure and routines in their class to create/modify their own classroom organization/management plan. A second day was added to explore classroom discipline and strategies to develop and maintain positive relationships with students. Textbook provided with CD full of useful resources.

After the Crisis: Traumatic Event Crisis Intervention Plan (TECIP)®

This 2-day course introduces "After the Crisis" management protocols that offer building crisis response team a proven structure to stabilize the aftermath situation, mobilize resources, accelerate normalization of routine, minimize the adverse impact on student achievement (by restoring adaptive functioning: and facilitate access to more help for the seriously impacted students and staff.
The format of this course will include lecture, demonstrations, small and large group discussion and practice. The goal is to provide participants with a proactive set of protocols and materials (Traumatic Event Crisis Intervention Plan - TECIP® that can be readily implemented following exposure, either directly or indirectly, to a traumatic event, including a Rapid Response Assessment Guide and a Survivor Interview.

Audience: General and Special Education teachers, psychologists, social workers, counselors, administrators ,Oakland County LEA & PSA Staff, Teacher Consultants, and Para Educators
Life Space Crisis Intervention (LSCI) is a theory-based, comprehensive and systematic approach to specific types of crisis situations. This course teaches a knowledge base and related skills that are relevant to staff who deal regularly with challenging students who are in emotional crisis. Trainees will receive didactic and experientially based training, allowing them to intervene effectively and confidently in preventing and managing crisis situations that otherwise often lead to behavioral escalation, suspension, aggression, and also interfere with learning.
NOTE: Attendance at all five days is required. No partial credit SC-ECHs. Speciality Certificate Provided: LSCI certification. Registration deadline is June 9, 2014. Due to funding guidelines, priority will be given to Oakland County public schools & PSA's. Non-public and out-of-county registrants may be moved to a waiting list, but will be notified in advance of the change in registration status.
