Gratitude Changes Everything: A 2nd Grader's Thankful Reminder
For one 2nd grader at Rountree, Brooklyn Barry was grateful for what she had - hair! It became her mission to take what was within her power to do and use it for the good of others. We hope she knows that there are some thankful kids just like her who are grateful for her acts of kindness.
After noticing Brooklyn's recent cute haircut, her parents shared that, "She decided to do this on her own." Brooklyn grew out her hair with a mission of cutting it for some children in need. The organization Children with Hair Loss has this as their mission: Helping Children Look Themselves and Live Their Lives! When Children lose their hair, they don't just suffer physically. The change in their appearance can drastically undermine their self-image and sabotage their self-esteem.
Thank you, Brooklyn, for your part in such a worthwhile cause! We are thankful for you!
KINDERGARTEN UPDATE: Allen ISD Gifted & Talented Assessment
Allen ISD Gifted & Talented and Assessment Departments will coordinate upcoming kindergarten phase I testing for potential gifted/talented identification. All AISD kindergarten students will be administered a CogAT aptitude test between the dates of December 6-13, 2021. Please view the informational letter via Skyward Family Access the week of November 8-12. This test will be administered during the school day at each campus. You do not need to register your student for phase I testing.
Testing for potential gifted identification for students in Grades 1-11 will be in the spring. Please watch for announcements after the winter break via district and campus communication.

Allen ISD Student Device Program
Empower 1:1 Student Device Program
The Allen Empower 1:1 student program will be launched during the first semester of the new school year, 2021-2022. The program's goal is to provide a device for learning to each student attending school in the district. More detailed information will be communicated to parents after the school year starts.
Device Fee Information
To support the sustainability of the program, Allen ISD will institute a non-refundable device insurance fee of $30.00 per year for accidental damage protection insurance. The insurance program will cover the costs of repairs and replacement of parts stemming from unintentional damage that otherwise would be charged based on the fee schedule specified on the table below.
The fee will be payable via School Pay, in installments, as the devices are distributed in the fall of 2021 (free and reduced lunch device fee scales will be available). Payment of the insurance fee is required prior to students receiving their device.
Note: intentional damage or loss of a device is not covered under the insurance policy, and thus will be charged according to the Empower 1-1 Device Insurance Fee Information & Intentional Damage_Loss Fee Schedule table below.
