MMA Montessori Moments
April 27-May 1, 2020 Distance Learning Continues
Dear Parents and Students,
Friday, March 13 at approximately 4:00 pm Governor Herbert and Superintendent Dixon announced a soft closure or dismissal of public schools along with the directive of social distancing. Our faculty met Monday, March 16 for an orientation on creating a distance learning program. Teachers then met as teams the rest of that day and the next to devise a program that could be pushed out to students so they can stay home to do school work.
We truly appreciate how our school community adapted to this new way of instruction. None of us, and I’m pretty old and have been involved in education for many years, have ever been involved in this type of transition. There have been many glitches that have been associated with this. We hope that as we have ventured through this process that we have been able to hear and address your concerns.
As we come to the last few weeks of this school year, we have learned a great deal about our attempt to fulfill the educational program for our students. Now, with this experience, we hope that we can implement the ability to transition into this modality of instruction if we are ever put on a dismissal again.
By the end of the year, we will be sending out a survey, of our creation, to get your feedback. We know there have been many frustrations. Some have commented there has been too much work, some too little. Infrastructure and device accessibility have been concerns as well. When we send this survey, we would appreciate your comments that could be helpful for our program improvement.
Our junior high teachers are currently conducting parent teacher conferences. This a valuable time for you to understand where your student is regarding their academic progress. Please take this opportunity to openly discuss your student with teachers. Our elementary will be doing conferences the last week of school.
Once again, thank you so much for your support of MMA.
Mr. Mike continues to keep his daily routine of walking the halls and monitoring our crosswalk.
