Havelock North Primary School - 9th August 2022
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora koutou,
It's certainly time to rug up as I understand we're in for the coldest week of the year.
I would just like to say a big thank you to those wonderful people who are managing and coaching our sports teams this winter season. It is a real commitment and I know our tamariki and their families really appreciate the time you put in. Thank you!
Chess
Well done to our chess players who participated at the Hawke's Bay tournament on Friday. They did very well and enjoyed the experience. We thank these students for demonstrating our school values throughout the day.
Covid Update
Covid was quite active over the weekend with nine cases reported on Monday. There were four further cases today. The next few days will be telling and we will do our usual Friday weekly update. Just a reminder that if Covid is reported in your child's class, you will be informed as your child will be a close contact.
Learning Conferences
A reminder that Learning Conferences will take place this Wednesday 10th and Thursday 11th August. Tomorrow school will finish at 12:30pm to allow the first interviews to begin at 1:00pm. We respectfully ask that students be collected at 12:30pm on this day. We do recognise that for some families this may not be possible. Please let your child's teacher or the admin team know admin@hnps.school.nz if you require your child to stay at school until 3pm on Wednesday 10th August. They will be supervised in the hall. Normal school hours will resume on Thursday 11th August.
When booking you can choose either the "in person" or "video-conference" option. You will be emailed with confirmation of your booking. If you chose the "video conference" option, a link will be attached to the confirmation email you will receive.
Booking can be made though the following link:
https://www.schoolinterviews.co.nz/
Event code: 823us
Bookings close at 5:30pm tonight. Any bookings after this time can be made by contacting your child's teacher.
Thank you and please don't hesitate to contact us should you have any queries or need assistance.
Have a great week everyone.

School Books
School Books.
We need your help!
Firstly, occasionally our school readers inadvertently get left at home. We really need to have them returned. Our bookroom is looking quite sad as we no longer have full sets of books to use with our reading groups. It costs a great deal to keep our supply of reading resources current and adequate in number to ensure each child has access to books at an appropriate level. So, please send in any books you may have at home.
Also, could you please ensure that your child returns their reading book straight back to their bookbag after it has been read - to help keep it from being damaged. As unfortunately we have had a lot returned beyond repair. Thank you for your support with this.

Enviro Corner - Week 3
Long Tailed Bat (Pekapeka) Dress up Day and Fundraiser this Friday
Poppy Pekapeka heard about the great learning happening at HNP around endangered species and in particular the Long Tailed Bat! So impressed, she decided to roost nearby the school and pop in to see and hear about what the children are doing. She will be flying in and out over the week and looks forward to seeing the children in their batty costumes this Friday.
With your kind donations all money raised will be used for pest control and for transmitters to better understand the distribution of bats in Hawkes Bay.
Daryl and Ted (therapy dog) came to show the children in Room 6 and 7 how the transmitters on our native and endangered species work.
'Good Caps"
Last week we collected 3kgs of plastic and 35.5kgs of metal lids and caps.
Well done! Our running total is:
Plastic 12.5kgs
Metal 61.5kgs
Keep asking your family, friends and businesses to collect their plastic and metal caps for us:) Every lid saved from the landfill makes a difference to our environment and Kidney Kids.
