News from Glen Crest Middle School: January 2, 2023
From the Principal
Happy New Year! We are excited to welcome back our students tomorrow! I hope that everyone had an enjoyable winter break and enjoyed the holidays. Tomorrow is a full day of school.
Please remind your students to plug in their chrome books tonight so that they are fully charged tomorrow. They also need to remember to bring their headphones with their fully charged chrome book every day.
8th graders: Any permission slips and or fees for the Holocaust Field Trip that have not been turned in must be turned in on January 3rd. The field trip is this Friday!
Starting tomorrow, students who have Mr. Batiste and Mrs. Nordlund for PE will report to the UPPER GYM. Students who have Mrs. Tuggle or Mr. Sheridan will report to the LOWER GYM.
Reminder to dress for the weather! Unless it's is a feel like temperature below zero or it is wet outside, we will go outside during rec time for some fresh air.
Please double check with your students to make sure they have supplies that they need: pencils, pens, highlighters, dry erase markers may need to be replenished. Thank you!
Extra-curricular activities
Musical: Little Mermaid

Auditions will be held right when we get back to school after winter break: January 4th and 5th
***You only come to one day of auditions!
***Pick an audition song from the google classroom, pick an audition line from the google classroom, and fill out the audition form to sign up for a timeslot!
Callbacks will be immediately following auditions: January 6th
***You will find out via email Thursday evening if you have received a callback
Crew Forms are due January 6th
***Anyone can join the creative crew, and we need TONS of help!
***We are looking for 2 special students to be our student directors for this year's production!
Our 1st Rehearsal is January 9th - ALL cast and crew will attend!
The musical rehearses Monday-Thursday 2:35-5:00pm
The musical performs: March 17th, 18th, and 19th
If you have been thinking about participating but don't know if you should! Just do it! There's no time like the present to try something new!
Are thinking about trying out for basketball or volleyball but ALSO want to participate in the musical? It is possible to do both! We will work with you and you coaches to come up with a schedule that works for everyone!

7th grade girls basketball tryouts will be January 11th from 4:15-5:45pm and January 12th from 2:45-4:15pm in the Upper Gym. Sign-ups will be after break, listen for them in the announcements! Email Ms. LaBelle with any questions.

News from the district
Applications for 2023-24 tuition preschool will open January 9
Families interested in having their child attend tuition preschool in the 2023-24 school year will be able to fill out a preschool application between January 9 and January 27. Registration for kindergarten students who will be new to the district in the 2023-24 school year will open in February. Registration for returning students will open in April. CCSD 89 Music Boosters begin winter membership drive
The Music Boosters is a volunteer organization that supports music programs in all CCSD 89 schools. The Boosters assist at events. They also fundraise for new instruments and music materials, as well as scholarships for instrument rental, accompanists, and repairs. Get warm! Donate blood at Glen Crest on January 18, get a winter hat

No online learning on ‘snow days’ this school year
When school buildings need to close due to extreme weather (such as heavy snow or extreme cold), CCSD 89 will not be providing online learning this school year. If a snow day is necessary, schools will be closed and the day will be added to the end of the school year. More info: www.ccsd89.org/weather

If you enjoy working with kids and you’re looking for a job with good benefits, the district is hiring general-education and special-education aides.
