Program Description and Outcomes
Description:
Current research reminds us that mind and body must work together to produce healthy social, emotional and learning outcomes. How can this information be used to improve climate and productivity in educational settings? Teresa Bolick, Ph.D., Licensed Psychologist, and Eric Mann, MSW, Education and Behavioral Consultant, will discuss the inter-connections of thoughts, feelings , and actions to cultivate an understanding of the importance of stress awareness, stress management and executive skills development. With this understanding, Teresa and Eric will illustrate the benefits of school-based efforts to decrease the impact of poorly-managed stress, while mobilizing new energy for engagement in learning.Outcomes:
1. Describe a research-based model that explains the connections among well-managed and poorly-managed stress and learning and social/behavioral outcomes in schools.
2. Identify practical tools that educators and administrators can use to assess and monitor stress levels in the school environment.
3. Describe at least three practical changes in the physical, educational or interpersonal environments that allow educators and administrators to reduce the impact of poorly-managed stress in school.
4. Explain a functional approach to stress-related interfering behavior in school.
5. Describe how effective approaches to stress and anxiety can be integrated into common practice and language for students, families, and staff.
