GES Arrival and Dismissal Information
We are basically starting the school year like we ended last year for those of you that are returning. For our new families, this works really well and we just ask for your patience! Honestly, these two times of the day make me the most nervous from a safety perspective. Here is some general information for you and your family.
- GES Doors open at 7:30. Please do not drop off before that time because we do not have supervision.
- The tardy bell rings at 7:40, so it is very important to have the morning routine in place so children do not miss their Morning Meeting time each day. The doors will be closed and locked and if you arrive after 7:40, you will need to take your child to door #1 for check in.
- We will have staff at each door, sidewalk, and other areas for student supervision. GES Staff members will be wearing an HASD safety vest for easy identification.
- No parents will be allowed into the building through doors 11, 12, 13, or 15 in the morning or down the hallways the first days of school. All visitors must check-in and register at door #1 at all times.
- All family members in the building as volunteers must have a background check on file with the district office and they must check in at door #1 to receive a visitor badge.
GES Drop Off at Arrival
GES is committed to safety during all parts of the day and the morning arrival is no exception. Our drop off procedure is unchanged from last year and if you are new, instructions are below.
Please drop off your child in the driveway from the passenger side so they can exit the vehicle on the sidewalk safely. Children will then walk to door 15 to enter school.
If you need to exit your vehicle for any reason, please park in the lot and help your child with backpacks and other items. We have many parents that do this the first couple of days of school to see the system and to feel confident with our process.
(The driveway is for driving and the parking lot is for parking.) 😉
GES Open House
Please plan to come to GES with your child on Wednesday, August 30th between 3:45 and 5:45 to meet their teacher, drop off school supplies and support your child's learning.
Reminders are to be patient in the parking lot, as it will be very busy and to not arrive before 3:45. Teachers and staff need every last second to prepare for this very important first impression.
GES Pick Up at Dismissal
GES is committed to safety during all parts of our school day, and we have many children going many different places (bus, walkers, and pick ups). The only way we can safely and quickly get students to the right vehicles is through the process outlined here.
Register your child for pick-up line:
1. Anyone who will be picking up a child after school is required to register the student they will be picking up via the Google form below. After registering, you will pick up a car window sign at open house, or in the school office if you are unable to attend open house.
2. The tags are only for cars. If your child rides the bus or walks/rides their bike, it will be a different plan.
3. If you arrive without the car window sign, you will not be able to pick up your child in the line. If you lose the sign or were not able to pick one up, please park in the parking lot and come into the school office after the line has cleared to register your child.
Procedure for the pick-up line:
1. Pull into the pick-up line at the far east entrance of the school and remain in your vehicle. Follow staff direction as we park you into an open spot along the curb.
2. Make sure that the Family Pick up sign is clearly visible from the front passenger window.
3. A staff member will walk by your vehicle, and will call into the school by reading your student’s name(s) in the window. If your car does not have a sign, you will be asked to park and go to the school office. (see #3 above).
4. Your child will exit the school and go directly to your vehicle. You can remove your tag from the window at that time.
5. If for any reason you need to assist your child (putting on a seat belt, etc), please pull out of the line and park in the parking lot to do so.
Thank you for your cooperation to help the line move swiftly. We have been able to safely move over 100+ vehicles through the line in 15 mins or less when vehicles follow these procedures.
Attendance and Health Room
Attendance
Wisconsin State Law- A child is allowed to miss all or part of 10 days, after 10 days missed they will be marked unexcused and after 5 days of unexcused absences the student is considered habitually truant
After 5 and 10 missed days the district sends a letter home via mail
If your child has an appointment (doctor, dentist, therapy, etc) those professionals can give you a letter or they can fax us a note and that time missed would not count towards their 10 days
Pre-arranged absence form for extended absence to be filled out at least 5 days prior to absence.
Students will be marked tardy if they arrive after 7:40am
Please call attendance line 920.757.7161 before 7:30 am and make sure to state a reason your child(ren) are absent
