Carin's Corner!
Have a great weekend!
Tim's Take!
I just have to say that I was completely impressed with everyone's enthusiasm, engagement, desire, and interest in our social emotional learning PD on Wednesday! We, administratively at Cypress Creek, truly have the BEST instructional staff! Words cannot express my gratitude for all that you do for our students, parents, staff, and community! It is truly an honor to work with all of you.
In support of this past Wednesday's training, I found an article that expands on the the 10 Teaching Practices that Support SEL. This article, "21 Ways Teachers Can Integrate Social-Emotional Learning Throughout the Day," provides 21 brief, and easy, instructional strategies to incorporate into your lessons that support our social emotional learning initiative. You can access the link here: https://www.weareteachers.com/21-simple-ways-to-integrate-social-emotional-learning-throughout-the-day/

Reading Endorsemsent
Registration opens in myPGS on October 21, 2019 at 8:00 am.
Pasco County Schools offers five reading endorsement courses throughout the school year and summer to provide our teachers an opportunity to add the endorsement to their teaching certificate. In order to receive the endorsement, teachers complete courses that develop their understanding of the foundations of language, research of best practices, assessment, and differentiation in reading, as well as a semester practicum. Once all five courses are successfully completed, teachers can add the endorsement to their certificate.
This document lists the courses offered this winter, their myPGS course number, and details about dates that the courses run for the winter session. For additional information about endorsement requirements, please review the FAQ document. Please share this with teachers.
Book checkout for winter endorsement classes will be held at multiple locations and times. Once a participant is enrolled in a class, if they wish to borrow a course textbook from the district, they can come check one out at any of the following locations and times.
- November 7, 3:30-6:00 pm, Gulf High School lobby
- November 11, 4:00-7:00 pm, District Office, Building 3 lobby
- November 12, 5:00-7:00 pm, Pasco High School lobby
- November 15, 4:00-7:00 pm, District Office, Building 3 lobby
We are anticipating high enrollment in these courses; please encourage teachers to register quickly. If you have any questions, please contact Rachel Hatten.

Apply yourself Florida College Spirit Week
We will be celebrating Apply Yourself Florida! College Spirit Week 10/15-10/18. We would like every staff member to help support our graduating seniors AND promote post-secondary opportunities among all students on our campus. Here’s how you can participate:
- Complete the Pink “ASK ME ABOUT IT” Sheet in your mailbox and hang it in your classroom or office window by Tuesday, 10/15.
- Wear JEANS and a shirt representing the College of your choice on Tuesday, 10/15.
- Sign-off on a Senior’s Bingo Square as they look for faculty and staff members who meet the descriptions on their Bingo Cards.
- Encourage Seniors to see Mrs. Larimore to sign up for a time during the week to start or complete a college application.
Thank you for your support of Apply Yourself Florida/College Spirit Week!

It's Time for the Gallup Poll!!!
Pasco's students in grades 5-12 will be invited to participate in the 2019-2020 Gallup Student Poll over the next several weeks. The Gallup Student Poll is designed to aid educators in providing a more focused education -- one that builds engagement, creates hope for the future, fosters talent and prepares students to participate meaningfully in our nation's economy by finding or creating a good job one day.
Since the Gallup Student Poll is confidential, we can only track the number of student submissions and not individual students. ALL teachers should encourage students to exercise their voice by participating in the poll. Students will take the Gallup Poll in their ELA classes.
MS will participate on Friday, 10/11. HS will participate on Tuesday, 10/15.
Assessment Information
SAT-NCR Testing for Seniors - Wed 10/16
PSAT/NMSQT Testing - Wed 10/30
All sophomores (and any freshman or junior who registers) will participate in the PSAT-National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test on Wednesday, 10/30. This is an extremely important exam for our students as it provides access to the National Merit Scholarship program and many other scholarship opportunities. In addition, the PSAT serves as a concordant score to the Algebra 1 EOC for any student that did not pass the FSA Algebra 1 EOC in the spring. Please encourage all of our Coyote testers to prepare and do their very best!
Freshmen or juniors that want to register should see Mrs. Larimore or Mr. Copeland in the Media Center. Cost is $23 ($5 for students who qualify for free-reduced lunch). Seniors do not participate in the PSAT.
SAT School Day - March 25th - FREE to ALL Juniors!!!

Do you have a student who is in need of additional Support?
The CCMHS Student Services Team is a multidisciplinary team including; discipline staff, behavior specialist, school counselors, administrators, ESE staff, school psychologist, school social worker, school nurse, SRO, and SSAP coach that meets every Thursday to review students in need of additional supports. Any staff member may refer a student to the Student Services Team via the mach form link below.
The following include rationale for additional support:
- attendance problems
- academic issues after attempts to resolve
- significant changes in attitude, behavior, or academics
- economic hardships
- withdrawn or isolated
- patterns of behavior inconsistent with school mission and motto
- failure to respond to interventions or consequences even after contact home
Feedback forms for each student reviewed will be shared with staff directly related to the student after review.
