COVID-19 Principal's Message

Hello, PHS Parents. I hope this updated bulletin finds your family doing well. Last week, as PISD schools were closed to students, our staff members were busy preparing to provide instruction and supports to students and families in a distance learning format. We miss our students and you and hope we can see you soon! As we transition to distance learning please know that we will do everything we can to continue to support our students academically, socially, and emotionally. We are all learning to navigate a different way of life and I am confident we will emerge from this situation stronger and with a greater sense of community and belonging. Here are our two goals for the first week of distance learning with your student:

  1. Our primary goal this first week is to get all students connected through the Google Classroom platform. Nearly every student is comfortable with the technology we will be using.
  2. Our second goal is to ensure learning continues for every student.

I promise that no student will be penalized as we move to distance learning. We recognize the tremendous burden some of our families are experiencing and our aim is to support students during this time by providing as much support and normalcy as possible. Although all student extracurricular activities have stopped for the time being we hope to create virtual connections and help our students maintain and strengthen connections with their classmates and teachers. Please be sure to read all the way to the bottom of this bulletin because there are links to important information, facts about how distance learning will work, as well as information about STAAR EOC testing. And, even though we are working remotely, we continue to build positivity on our campus and in our community by celebrating all the great things our students and staff members accomplish. Please take a minute to complete a quick affirmation for any PISD staff member you would like to praise for their efforts this past week.

Important Upcoming Dates:

  • Monday, March 23--1st day of distance learning
  • Friday, March 27-Assignments due by noon.
  • Thursday, April 9--End of 5th Six Weeks
  • Friday, April 10--No School, Good Friday

Please feel free to contact me directly at my email link below if you have any questions specific to high school, suggestions or words of praise for our staff members! If you have general questions about COVID-19, specific questions about district technology, or school closures please email covid-19@pisd.us

Sincerely,

Twila M. Guajardo
