Mrs. Zinzi's Weekly News
Apples Apples Everywhere!
We had a busy week as we focused on our Apple theme. I LOOOVE me a good theme, and "Apples" doesn't disappoint! There are countless ways to incorporate apples into our curriculum: from science, to math, to literacy, and even physical development. The children were taught a fingerplay that we recite each morning at Circle Time, and we played a name recognition game while reciting an apple related chant. We sorted apples at the math table by color, and we even practiced our balance by "climbing" an apple tree that was applied to the floor with masking tape. This week we're going attempt our first written journal entry by copying the letters for "APPLE."
As September winds down, we're gearing up to have our parent volunteers begin in October! I will be sending out a sign up calendar that will take us through to December. My "official" volunteer hours run from 9:30-10:30 am each morning, but feel free to stay all morning if you want. The hour is designed for you to help out during the part of our morning where we need extra hands for projects and such (but parents with jobs or little ones at home can get back to their responsibilities), however we won't kick you out if you're having fun! ;)
Here are a few reminders/announcements for the week:
- Havenwood Sprirt Day will be Wednesday and Thursday of this week. Please send your child to school wearing our school colors, red and black. Thanks!
- Our first fire drills will be held on Thursday and Friday. I'm just giving you a heads up in case you feel you may need to talk about it at home beforehand with your child. We do not "surprise" the children, and we talk about what to expect and what we're going to do. They know that we practice to be safe, and they do pretty well! The worst part for most is the loud buzzer, but it's quick and it's shut off after several seconds.
- Please be sure to always have a change of clothes in your child's bag for spills and/or accidents...the beginning of the school year is when it's most needed. :)
- Be sure to check and empty your child's folder each day!
Looking forward to another fantastic week! Below are the words to our apple poem...see if your little one can recite it for you. :)
Aimie Zinzi
Way up high in the apple tree,
Two little apples smiled at me.
I shook that tree as hard as I could,
And down came the apples,
Mmmm, they were good!
