What is Rotavirus?

Rotavirus is any group of RNA viruses, come of which cause acute enteritis in humans. Rotavirus is the most common cause of severe vomiting and diarrhea among infants and young children. Rotavirus does not only effect humans but it can effect animals also.

What are the symptoms?

The symptoms usually include severe watery diarrhea, often vomiting, abdominal pain and you will run a fever. If you get very ill then you will have to go to the ER and have someone take care of you so that you do not get dehydrated for more sick.

Who is more immune to it?

Infants and younger children are more immune this illness. They may become severely dehydrated and need to be hospitalized and can even die. You can pass on rotavirus to someone else that you may be close to a lot because it is contagious. infants are more immune to this because their body cannot fight off germs as easily as an adults immune system.

What are treatments for Rotavirus?

There is no drug or prescription that the doctors can give you to treat the virus. The best way to fight Rotavirus is to drink lots of fluids/liquids to keep from getting dehydrated. Antibiotics will not help because they fight against bacteria not viruses.
