PLEASANT VALLEY MIDDLE SCHOOL

PRINCIPAL'S CORNER

Dear PVM Families,

We hope you all have wonderful holidays and a great winter break. We will hit the ground running when we get back with our winter iReady assessments. Please encourage your child to give their best effort on the assessments, as they often assist us in determining class placements. We need to know each child's true achievement level to provide targeted instruction to assist them in skill deficit areas. Once again, have a wonderful break and time with families.

Michael Maloney, Principal Pleasant Valley Middle School

WINTER BREAK - NO SCHOOL!

THANK YOU PTA!!!

Thank you to the Pleasant Valley PTA, who provided new playground balls and equipment for Pleasant Valley Middle school this month. They also provided a wonderful new shredder for the PVM office so we may ensure confidential documents are securely disposed of. The money raised by PTA fundraisers helps fund requests like this, that benefit your children. Thank you, also, to all of you who participate in PTA fundraisers, supporting our students and staff at Pleasant Valley.

CELEBRATION TIME

Recipients of a Patriot Pride award are entered in a drawing each month to win lunch with the principals. They get to choose a friend to join them for lunch. Students earn a PRIDE award by going above and beyond, exhibiting behaviors that are Positive, Responsible, show Integrity, Dependable, and show Effort. Winners of Pizza with the Principals for the month of November, who enjoyed lunch with their friends on December 10th, were:

Isaiah Lynch/Curtis Yost, Korben Collins/Lake Collins, Brodie Collins/Ronit Kumar, Corbin Lucido/Elija Amies, and Melanie Lopez Ponce/Kylie Stiles.

Great job to all students who received a PRIDE award. You are amazing and a large part of what makes Pleasant Valley great!

FROM THE NURSE

Cold and flu season has arrived, and an increase in cases of flu has been noted in Clark County. Pleasant Valley custodians are taking care to do extra disinfecting in classrooms to help prevent student and staff illness. Attached below are information sheets from Clark County Public Health to help you differentiate between influenza and a cold, as well as common prevention measures. Please remember that students should be 24 hours symptom-free without medication before returning to school after having a fever, vomiting, or having diarrhea. You can click the link below to download or view the BGSD Health and Attendance brochure. When calling in to excuse an absence due to illness, we would appreciate if you could let us know if your student has been vomiting, had a fever, or been diagnosed with influenza.

Thank you for your assistance. We hope you have a wonderful, and healthy, winter break.

ATTENDANCE NOTES - HOLIDAYS

We understand that families do a lot of traveling around the holidays. If you plan on having your child out of school for extra days before or after Winter Break, please contact the school office, 360-885-5500, to pre-arrange the absence so we can help your student avoid missing any important work, and to get the absence excused. Please give at least two days notice ahead of the absence.

Thank you.

BATTLE GROUND STUDENT AND FAMILY HANDBOOK

VOLUNTEERS AND CHAPERONES

We love to have parents and guardians volunteer and come as chaperones on school outings. We do require a background check in order to work with or supervise students in the Battle Ground school district.

The application is online, though, we do need to get a copy of your driver's license at the school office in order to process the background check. Click the link below for more information and to apply.

Once approved, the clearance is good for two (2) years.

We encourage you to get cleared now, as the process can take 7 -10 days and is not always possible to complete in time if you wish to chaperone on a field trip with your child's class at the last minute. Thank you so much for spending time here helping at PVM!
