Nightly Reading Homework

All students at Pine Hill and South Bay have nightly reading homework. THIS WEBSITE and the video below provide a number of suggestions and strategies for families when reading with their children at home. Reading homework has been proven to be the most effective homework for elementary-aged students. We greatly appreciate you prioritizing reading with your children every evening! They will benefit greatly from the experience!

Nightly Reading Homework: Best Practices for Parents

Apples for Educators

During the week of Oct. 10-14th, we would love to have families donate apple (or chocolate) treats to our staff at both Pine Hill and South Bay. PTA will be decorating our staff rooms and providing some treats for our staff, and we would appreciate your assistance! Homemade or purchased treats are always a great way to say "Thank You" to all the staff at our schools.

Check lost & found

As the mornings are getting colder and the afternoons nice and warm, please remind your student to check the lost and found! Both PH and SB have overflowing lost and found items! These items will be donated at the end of each trimester.

National School Lunch Week, Oct. 10-15th

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) serves nearly 30 million children every school day. President John F. Kennedy created National School Lunch Week (NSLW) in 1962 to promote the importance of a healthy school lunch in a child’s life and the impact it has inside and outside of the classroom. The 2022 theme is “NSLW 2022: Peace, Love & School Lunch.”

In order to celebrate we are going to have a groovy Tye Dye day on Wed. 10/12. Wear your favorite tye dye and thank Ms. Danika and Ms. Angie for all they do!

Site Council/Charter Council

Parent members for the Pine Hill and South Bay site/charter councils are needed! Our schools benefit from having School Site Councils because they:
  • provide an open forum for discussing educational issues
  • provide an opportunity for interaction by parents, teachers, and administrators
  • foster the importance of decision-making at the site level
  • contribute to each site's Plan for Student Achievement
  • assist in defining educational needs and problems

If being a part of our schools' site councils intrigues you, please reach out to Heather Becksted at South Bay or Tim Grimmett at Pine Hill. Your interest in this important school team is greatly appreciated!

October Menus

Click HERE for the breakfast and lunch menus at Pine Hill and South Bay through October 15th.

Menus will be covered in two-week sections, due to supply chain issues. The kitchen wants to ensure that we are able to provide the meals that are on our menu, so planning for shorter time periods is necessary. Both South Bay and Pine Hill do not provide microwaves for students to use in the cafeteria, so please pack ready-to-eat meals.

**Remember school breakfast & lunch is free for ALL students, regardless of home income. **

Parent Teacher Student Association

New leadership for the district's Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) is wanted for the 22-23 school year. If you are interested in taking a leadership role or just want some information about this important district team, please reach out to Heather Becksted at South Bay or Tim Grimmett at Pine Hill.
