The "I Voted" Challenge
We will be holding an "I Voted" Challenge in order to encourage people to participate in the democratic process and vote.
How does it work? Go vote! (It doesn't matter if you live inside CISD boundaries or not, everyone in every precinct has something to vote on this November). Bring YOUR "I Voted" sticker to school and stick it on the poster that will be hanging outside Rachel's office.
If we get to 90 stickers (actual stickers from employees, not Aunts, cousins, etc.) we will wear jeans from that day until January 7!
Remember... It does not matter which way you vote or if you live in CISD, this is to encourage us adults to set a good example for our students about participating in a Constitutional right as a United States citizen.
Food for Thought
Who needs me today?
Would I want to be taught by me?
Am I better today that I was yesterday?
Feb. 17 - Plan to work
February 17 was a bad weather day. Professional Staff should plan to report to work that day. This will be a team planning day.
Paraprofessionals do not need to report to work on Feb. 17.
From the district ESL Dept.
(WE DID THIS TRAINING AS A STAFF LAST AUGUST. HOWEVER, IF YOU ARE A NEW HISTORY, SCIENCE, or MATH TEACHER THIS MESSAGE APPLIES TO YOU.)
This is a reminder that TEA requires any teacher who teaches an English Learners who is not required to be ESL certified and is NOT ESL certified (i.e. non ESL certified math, science and social studies teachers) to have completed a 1 day course on best practices to serve English Learners. We offer an on-line 6 hour SIOP training that satisfies this requirement. This is not new this year, so most of your teachers should have completed this requirement last year. We just want you to ensure that any new staff working with ELs who is not a language arts teacher and is not ESL certified comply with this requirement. Your campus LPAC contacts are required to keep a copy of their certificate on file for audit purposes. They need your support in ensuring these teachers comply.
Please note the course does NOT need to be SIOP. It can be any full day course that focuses on working with English Learners. Many of our teachers who have attended the ELPS Academy through the Texas Gateway or as part of the Region Service Centers have used that to satisfy the requirement. Also, any of the full day Seidlitz trainings, Title III Symposiums, Bilingual/ESL Conferences, etc...would also comply with the requirement. They must produce a copy of their certificate. Once the requirement is satisfied, the teacher no longer has to attend a full day training for this purpose. The deadline for compliance with this requirement is snapshot, October 31, 2019.
The 4 PLC Questions

Team Lead / Instructional Leadership Team Meeting Notes
NOTES 8/19
-
Distinctions, comparison schools, and quadrants were discussed.
Dr. Tamika Taylor praised MJH teachers for the excellent job they are doing. She also gave her recommendations on the PLC process. Our homework is to:
- Set student goals and track them all year - "I can" statements are a great way to use kid friendly language - my challenge is for this to be a campus wide expectation!
- Teacher led PD as on ongoing cycle - based on instructional needs, admin walkthroughs, and data. This is going to be such an amazing asset to the 5 day PLC structure!
Discussed quadrants. Our lowest performers are ELL and SPED.
When planning think about what we want students to learn and how to reteach if needed.
Discussed what instruction should look like when moving students from meets to masters. Approaches to meets, etc.
Notes 8/26
- Discussed the importance of Bell to Bell instruction.
- Discussed Open House - Sept. 23rd (8th Grade) Sept. 24th (7th Grade)
- Discussed Federal Accountability (Reading/Math) Achieving "meets" levels
- Discussed "I can" trackers by team. Discussed Student tracking vs. Teacher tracking
- Discussed - Teacher Led PD - Look at data before hand - Have teacher who was most successful demonstrate the lesson prior to teaching the lesson.
Notes 9/6
Mrs. Fuller and Dr. Taylor talked STAAR structure. We will focus on student growth. We looked at data from May 2019 and we looked at individual student data. We now know where our students are now and we can start interventions early instead of waiting. We know that we need to focus on and target specific students (sub groups) to move up to the meets level. We looked at examples of "I Can" charts and student tracking. Math teams shared what their student trackers. The district math coaches were very impressed by what they developed.
