Through our discussions, the team further discussed the importance of validation, trust, communication, and empathy and how these all play a role in the development of our culture and climate.
Furthermore, our team started to discuss the Middle School Model in regards to what has been going well and areas for improvement. The team will continue this discussion following our staff meeting on the Jan. 22nd (State of the Union meeting). They will use your feedback as the basis for this discussion.

The team determined it would be best to further discuss the electives during our PD day on Jan. 20th. Elective teachers will be working with their SLL group to discuss a common set of questions. Their responses will then be discussed by another team on Jan. 21st in order to develop plans for next year. We appreciate everyone's efforts in these discussions in order to help improve our elective model.
Notes from What Teachers Shared at the Elective Meeting
Staff Meeting Jan. 15th
- ELA Data Analysis- All ELA teachers, special education teachers, EL and Reading Specialists should attend the breakout session. (ELA teachers, if you get done early with data, you can continue with the department activity.)
- Departments- During our work on the 20th we will be discussing Formative Assessments. During this breakout session, we would like you to start the discussion about common formative assessments your content teams have used and/or are using. Please remember, we realize our staff members have varying levels of understanding of common formative assessments and are using them at varying levels as well. We don't expect perfection, we are working towards progress.
Educator Effectiveness: Doc Log
- Friday, Jan. 17th 8:00-9:00 am
- Tues., Jan. 21st 3:00-4:00 pm
- Mon., Jan. 27th 3:00-4:00 pm
During this time, you can brainstorm ideas for evidence, work on creating your doc log, and ask questions. We are here to help! These are optional meetings, please participate in as many as you'd like.

Please use this day to help you get caught up or prepare for upcoming lessons/units. Cory and I will be around all day, so please let us know if you need anything from us.
Remember the chili cook-off too! You can bring chili or a small dish to pass. We will provide soda and water.
Paraprofessionals- Friday, Jan. 17th
We are excited to offer this opportunity to our MPSD paraprofessional staff. Remember, your attendance is expected and you will be paid for your attendance at this training.
Please note the following:
- Date/Time: Friday, January 17 at Lincoln High School
- Time: 7:30 am - Noon
- Parking: Street side, or in the parking lot at the corner of 8th St. & Columbus St.
- Entrance: Main entrance (behind the Abe Lincoln statute in the circular drive)
- Sign-In: PLEASE arrive between 7:30–7:50 am to sign in / register
- Welcome: 8–8:15 am: ALL will gather in the LHS auditorium for the welcome / opening comments
- Breakfast: A grab-n-go light breakfast bag will be available along with coffee and bottled water
After the Welcome in the LHS Auditorium, staff will be divided into four groups and rotate through the following 45-minute training sessions:
- Understanding Behavior and De-escalation Techniques: Presented by Adam VanDeVen; Program Support Teacher
- Autism: Strategies for Success: Presented by Kristin Sorenson; Program Support Teacher
- Seeing the Brilliance of ALL Learners: Presented by Lori Williams and Jen Schultz; Program Support Teachers
- Safety – Emergency Preparedness: Presented by Michael Morgan; Mental Wellness / Safety Coordinator
