Room 314

January 6, 2014

Welcome back from winter vacation. I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful break and are having a great 2014 so far. I had a great break. I spent a lot of time with my kids. We went to Castles and Coasters. That was a lot of fun. We also saw the movie "Frozen." We loved that! My son, Zack, turned 13 and he had his Bar Mitzvah on Saturday. He did an amazing job! It was a whirlwind weekend with friends and family.

We have a lot going on this week and I look forward to getting back into the swing of things. If your child sees me for reading, he/she received information before winter vacation about RAZ Kids. It will be homework each week to read books on RAZ Kids. Your child can read books on RAZ Kids on a computer or iPad. I will be able to view what your child reads and how he/she does on quizzes. Remember that if your child takes a quiz on a RAZ Kids book, he/she will earn "AR" points. Most of the RAZ Kids books will be worth half a point. I will let each of the teachers know how many "points" your child earns each week.

If you haven't heard, our Little Free Library is now open in the school lobby. You can check out our website for more information. We hope the school district puts it in its permanent location soon!

Have a great week!

The focus for this week will be to add adverbs to their journal entry. Each day we will continue to work with Four Level Grammar. This is a program that is being used throughout the school to immerse children in grammar. I have used this program for years and it is very effective and carries over to reading. We will spend 5-10 minutes a day on grammar.
