Thank you for continuing to follow, and encourage your children to follow, these healthy habits to prevent the further spread of the virus in our community: wear a mask, wash your hands, stay home when ill, and stay at a safe distance from others outside your household.

Gating Criteria Update!

The KSDE/USD 497 gating criteria update for April 1 indicates the green risk level, as does LDCPH's school guidance. There will be no change in current plans for school or athletics and activities.

While our local data looks good, please keep following health and safety measures - mask up, wash up, stay safely apart, and stay home when ill or exposed to someone who is ill. When making weekend plans, consider safety!

Reminder: All of our schools will be in session on April 16, our inclement weather make-up day.

State Testing for Grades 3-5

Students in Grades 3-5 will be participating in state testing this year! Below you will find the testing schedule for each grade. Please help your child prepare by getting a good night's rest and healthy breakfast. Each test takes 45-60 minutes to complete. Students will need headphones/earbuds for testing. Some headphones have been lost or broken, so check with your child to make sure they still have a working set at school. On the day of testing students should bring their water bottle. Hero of the Week

Originally developed by Pinckney Elementary, the Deerfield Equity Team decided to include a "Hero of the Week" during morning announcements this year. When picking the Heroes, we look for people from marginalized communities that have made the world a better place. Our goals for the students are to see themselves in our Heroes and so students can see people who are different from them.

4/5-4/9: Colin Kaepernick

4/11-4/15: Joy Harjo

4/18-4/22: Grace Vanderwaal

4/26-4/30: Malala Yousafzai

Building Reminders

As one of our mitigation strategies, we are continuing to limit access to the building. Please help by following these protocols:

  • If you need to deliver something to the office, please send it to school with your child as opposed to hand delivering to the office.
  • If your child forgets their water bottle, they can get a cup from their teacher to use for the day. You do not need to bring their water bottle to school.
  • If you need to pick up your child early from school. Please stay in your car and call the office (785-832-5660). The office will sign out your child and send them to you.
  • As always, we appreciate everyone wearing a mask while on school grounds.

Reminder: Traffic Plan

We will continue to keep this information in the newsletter as a reminder for our current families and for new families who have joined us over the break. Please review the Deerfield Traffic Plan to ensure a safe and efficient drop off and pick up! Drop off and pick up can be a bit hectic, so we appreciate your patience and kindness as you navigate the traffic! A quick shout out is owed to our ever present crossing guards, Kate Zylstra and Nancy Burghorn! They are at the crosswalk rain or shine, sleet or snow! We so appreciate you Nancy and Kate!
