Teaching Mindfulness to Students
Some of the kindergarten classes paint rocks and place them around the community to spread messages of kindness so Sprague Enrichment Specialist Christie Wylie thought that rock balancing might be a great mindfulness activity to try at school.
At Sprague, there are a variety of programs to help teachers and students experience mindfulness techniques. These techniques, when practiced over time, help students pay attention to their bodies, breathing and thinking. All of these strategies support having students ready for learning and working well with others.
“Who knew stacking rocks would fulfill so many important aspects of learning?” Mrs. Wylie said. For more pictures of the mindfulness activity, please visit the school's Facebook page.
