Dear Terra Linda Families,

On Monday, you received information from our District asking you to submit your choice for each of your children for either joining In-Person Hybrid or continuing in CDL. You need to let us know your choice by Monday, February 15. You can either follow the instructions in the message (I've included it below for easy access) or you can call us at Terra Linda and we will enter your choice for you. 503-356-2490

To Terra Linda Families: Please know you can call us with your choice at 503-356-2490 or enter it in ParentVue.


Dear BSD Elementary Families,

As we indicated last week, we are planning to bring back elementary students for Hybrid Instruction (part in-person/part online) on April 5, at the earliest. Of course, this move is dependent on our continuing to meet the advisory health metrics set by the Oregon Department of Education and the Oregon Health Authority (≤ 350 positive COVID-19 cases per 100,000 over the previous two-week period in Washington and Multnomah Counties). We are hopeful that COVID-19 cases will continue to decline.


The first group of students to begin Hybrid Instruction will be Pre-Kindergartens, Kindergartens, 1st Graders and 2nd Graders. After we’ve had a smooth transition with our youngest students, we’ll consider bringing back Grades 3-5, possibly one grade per week.

If you’re not comfortable sending your students back for in-person instruction, they can continue to remain in Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL).


We’ve been asked by teachers and parents whether the District considered offering a third option of allowing families to choose to stay with their teachers, regardless of the method of instruction. Yes, the District fully vetted this idea. However, depending on the outcome of the survey, it wouldn’t have been possible to guarantee that the District could still offer a Hybrid option because of the complexities of staffing. Not offering Hybrid instruction to our families is not an option.


Please know that the District will do everything that it can to maintain current teacher-student relationships at the elementary level, where possible. However, no student — whether CDL or Hybrid — will be guaranteed the same teacher as the one instructing them now. Again, please refer to the video for a full explanation.


ALL elementary families (with the exception of FLEX families) must choose whether to remain in CDL or move to Hybrid. This decision will apply to the rest of the school year; no switches will be allowed. We do not know the exact start and end times for the morning and afternoon sessions, and you won’t know if you’ll be assigned the morning or afternoon session before making the choice. Please do not call your school asking this question. The information is not available.


To make your decision:

  • Access your ParentVue account.
  • Navigate to the upper right-hand corner and click on “Family Updates and New Student Enrollment” and then follow the instructions in the blue box.
  • You’ll need to make a choice for each of your elementary students.
  • If you don’t have a ParentVue account, read the sign-up instructions on our website.

All decisions must be made by February 15.

Q&A Sessions hosted by BSD

The Beaverton School District plans to host three Community Q&A Sessions (Elementary, Middle & High/Option School) to answer questions from parents/guardians. The elementary session will cover In-Person Hybrid Instruction. The secondary sessions will focus on BSD Connect plus the feasibility of In-Person Hybrid Instruction.

  • Elementary Q&A - Wednesday, February 10, 7:00-800 pm

  • Middle School Q&A - Wednesday, February 17, 7:00-8:00 pm

  • High & Option School Q&A - Thursday, February 18, 7:00-8:00 pm


The Q&A session will not be live, but recorded and posted on our Return-to-School webpage and on social media later that night. Each session will have 10 community participants. Each participant will be allowed to ask at least one question and one follow-up question.


For Elementary and Middle Schools, it will be as follows:

  • 6 community members randomly selected from submissions that are collected via an online form

  • 4 community members who represent historically underrepresented groups


High/Options School will be similar, but:

  • 5 community members randomly selected from submissions that we collect via an online form

  • 4 community members who represent historically underrepresented groups

  • 1 student from BSAC

PTC-Sponsored Move-A-Thon Ends Friday 2/5

Thank you to the PTC for sponsoring a Move-A-Thon this week! Students can access the form linked below in their Seesaw Wellness Class, but we wanted you to have it, too, in case they can't find it.

As a reminder, any donations that you would like to have considered for Move-A-Thon Prizes or for the Raffle need to be received by Friday, February 19 (this is an extended date).

School Pictures Tuesday, February 9 (Repeat)

School pictures will be taken in the Terra Linda gym on Tuesday, February 9 from 2:30-7:30pm. You must have a confirmed appointment. If you have not made your appointment already, please visit https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D4BAFA828A5FAC61-terra and select one time per student. You can pre-order online or you may bring your completed Dorian picture envelope with payment when you come for your scheduled time.


  • You must wear a face mask and social distance at all times
  • Please arrive at Terra Linda about 5 minutes before your scheduled time and park in the North parking lot (near the THPRD park and our Bus lane)
  • Remain in your car until 3 minutes prior to your appointment time
  • We will have cones placed in the undercover area to assist with social distancing.
  • You will check in at the table in the undercover area outside of the gym, near our playground
  • Students will enter the gym though the South door and will be escorted by staff
  • Parents will wait outside in the undercover area and meet your student outside the North door (near the module)
  • No more than 10 students in the gym at one time. Staff will keep the students spaced 6 feet apart when inside the gym.
  • Students will be able to remove their face covering just before their picture is taken and then will need to put it back on prior to leaving the gym

Library To Go Schedule Changes

February 10

  • Outdoor Library will only be available from 12:00 to 12:45pm.
  • Book Bus is Canceled
  • Both changes allow our staff to attend District-wide Equity PD that begins at 1:00pm


February 17

  • No Outdoor Library because this will be another synchronous school day, similar to a typical Tuesday.
  • We will still operate the Book Bus in the afternoon like normal.

Progress Reports Are Paperless—Set up your ParentVUE Account Now!

Progress Reports will be viewable through ParentVue on Friday, February 12.


The Beaverton School District has transitioned to electronic Progress Reports for all students. The electronic Progress Report can be accessed through ParentVUE (mobile and desktop). If you have not set up your ParentVue account, you will need to do that in order to view your child's Progress Report.


There are resources and guidance on how to set up a ParentVue account. Please view the FAQ for instructions on setting up your account. There are several benefits to paperless Progress Reports. You will be able to view them much sooner rather than waiting up to two weeks for them to come by mail or in your child’s backpack. In addition, moving away from paper is environmentally friendly and cost-effective for the District.

Immunizations

Immunizations are required by state law for children and students in attendance at public and private schools, preschools, childcare facilities and Head Start programs in Oregon. Nearly every facility that provides care for a child outside the home requires immunizations or a medical or non-medical exemption to stay enrolled.


Children who are not up-to-date on their immunizations by February 17, 2021 will be excluded from school until their immunizations are up-to-date.


IMPORTANT: This year, your child can still be excluded from school even if they only attend online. Keeping children up-to-date on immunizations will help schools transition safely and quickly to in-person learning when they’re able.


Students and families in the Beaverton School District may access Immunizations at both the Beaverton School-Based Health Center and the Merlo School-Based Health Center.

Kindergarten Orientation Thursday, May 6 at 6:30pm (Repeat)

Please save the date for our annual Kindergarten Orientation for all incoming Kindergarten students and their parents/guardians. We are hoping this event will be able to be held in person as we have done in previous years. More details to come. Parent Resources from Teachers College Reading & Writing Project at Columbia University (Repeat)

You may have seen your children watching videos during Distance Learning about a reading, writing, or phonics skill. These videos are produced by staff at Teachers College in New York who help train classroom teachers how to use the Units of Study in Reading, Writing, and Phonics - the literacy curriculum we use in Beaverton.

4th & 5th graders are invited to all three sessions. We will have planned activities on Mondays, and we will offer a chance to chat with friends on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
