How She Became Famous
Oprah's Early Life
Rich and famous Oprah Winfrey was born in Kosciusko Mississippi on January 29th, 1954. Things weren't always great for her. When she was six years old, she had to move to Milwaukee to live with her mom. While living with her mom, she got molested and abused repeatedly by male relatives and another person from the ages of 9 to 13. A few years later she went to go live with her father, Vernon Winfrey, in Tennessee. He was strict and disciplined, but he gave Oprah a safe place to live. Oprah was home schooled during her child hood. Her grandmother taught her how to read and write at the just the age of three. When Oprah got into her teen years and things started looking up to Oprah, she got a full scholarship to Tennessee State University, where she decided to majored in Speech communications and performing arts.
Challenges Oprah Faced
Although Oprah is successful now, she did have to face some tough challenges she had to face. For example, when she was six, Oprah had to live her mother. While living with her mother, she got sexually abused by male relatives and another person. When that happened, at age 14 she was on her own and gave birth to a baby, but the baby died in infancy.
Successes Oprah had
After Oprah's life came into place, she had TONS of achievements. At 17 she won a beauty pageant and got offered an air job at WVOL which is a radio station talking about the African American community. Soon in 1984, she got invited to Chicago to host a half hour morning segment on WLS-TV which was later renamed the Oprah Winfrey Show. The following year she got a "Broadcaster of the Year" award.
How She Was Able to be Successful Despite her Difficulties
Oprah was able to be successful despite her challenges. She never stopped fighting to reach her goals. She said in quote, "We are each responsible for our own life, no other person is or even can be." She kept the mindset that overcoming obstacles would give her confidence to achieve her goals. She never let the challenges get in the way from achieving her goals.
Oprah's Supporters
Although it may have seemed like Oprah had no one to help her achieve her goals, she did have one which was her father, Vernon WInfrey. When she went to go live with her father in Tennessee, her father encouraged her. By his encouragement, her mental trauma of the past and harassment went away and she won a scholarship at a good university.
Oprah's Legacy
Her legacy that will live on even when she dies is her iconic show, the Oprah Winfrey show. Her show brought, laughter, happiness, and new opportunities. Plus, people got cars from her show!! Now that's pretty epic.
Interesting Things About Oprah Winfrey
Oprah is pretty interesting obviously. When she was young and was getting abused, she thought drugs were the answer. So she became to rebellious and did drugs. Also, she doesn't like Michelle Obama which is such a shocker!!! She says Michelle always, "one ups the president and anybody else around her.
