Quarterly Staff and Volunteer Newsletter
Was it a party if nobody called the police?
For those who couldn't make it, I want to repeat a few of the statistics that give an idea of what we all do here:
- 5,000 - the average monthly door count
- 39,002 - checkouts in 2016
- 6,823 - public computer uses
- 8,299 - attendees at classes, meetings and programs
Of course, numbers don't tell the whole story. We help people make their lives work by providing fax and copying and computer help. We welcome and encourage the small children who are learning to be great readers. We create a beautiful garden that is a showpiece of the Village. We help make people's day better by being a friendly face. And so much more.
I say it all the time but I can never say it enough, I am so lucky to work with such wonderful people. Ours is a unique and enviable group. My heartfelt thanks for all you do. - Annie
Libraries Transform
Because . . . . .
The things we do at the library transform our community by providing resources and opportunities of all kinds to our friends and neighbors. Just imagine Greenwich without the library. (OK, stop that. It's too scary.)
Next time you come to the library, take a moment to stop outside the front door and read the Because statements people wrote at the party. Then write and post your own.
Strategic Planning: Yes, there's a method to this madness.
We've started by updating our Mission Statement and, over the next several months, will be working on a set of goals and activities based on it. Please take a moment to click the link and look it over.
As the process continues, we'll be asking for input from staff, volunteers and the public. In order to serve the community, it makes sense to know what the community thinks, right? Please participate in this process. You have a unique and valuable point of view.

The annual plant sale needs you!
Also Andrea Grom, who grows and donates the best veggies and herbs ever, is looking for a greenhouse helper on a couple of Saturdays in mid April for a couple of hours at a time. This is a great opportunity to learn from the best while enjoying a little tropical warmth.
If you'd like to help, please email me amiller@sals.edu.
Practical Stuff You Should Know If You Work the Desk
- If people want to donate items to the The IVH Gill Room local history archive, we now have a form that they must fill out to accompany their gift. Forms are in the Forms drawer.
- We're cleaning out the office and will be reestablishing the bulletin board as a message center. Make it a habit to check it when you come in to find out if anything has changed since you were here last.
- Having a staff member check over items before they are shelved, set aside as holds or sent on to other libraries has cut down on errors! We plan on continuing the practice.
