BEAR TRACKS: BACK TO SCHOOL EDITION
August 22, 2021 • Updates from Roosevelt Elementary
Please review the important car/bus information below so our arrival and dismissal processes run safely and smoothly:
- If your child rode a bus in the past—this year’s bus, time, location, and route will stay the same (Check bus route information here.)
- If you don’t want your child to ride the bus this year—call 573-1700 immediately to let us know. Otherwise, your child will be placed on the bus home, including on the first day of school. If you have moved, call us immediately to get new bus information.
- Please arrange busing ahead of time by phone, not in-person on the first day of school. Because of crowding/COVID concerns in our office, we request that all busing questions are handled on the phone.
- Any future bus changes must be made at least 2 hours before dismissal to ensure your child’s safety.
MORNING DROP OFF BY CAR:
Please stay in your car or off-campus until the bell rings at 8:15.
At 8:15, drop your child off by walking your child to the front door or by driving through the drop-off lane.
We’ll direct your child to the appropriate playground/cafeteria area.
On the first day of school, each teacher will meet their class at a designated area on the playground
AFTERNOON PICK-UP BY CAR:
- Pink and green car tags were mailed home last week. Please display the car tag in your front windshield when you pick up your child by car. Please stay in your car and pull forward as directed. Your child will be delivered to you.
Staggered dismissal starts with Grades K/1 at 3:05 pm. Arrive early if you have children ONLY in K or 1st grade.
To avoid our crowded parking lot, wait to pick up older children at 3:20 or ask them to walk to meet you nearby (for example, at the Central Lutheran Church parking lot).
WALKERS:
- If you walk to pick up your child, please wait in the designated area (on the grass island or near the brick gate).
- Children will be walked to the designated area AFTER buses have moved.
Roosevelt welcomes you to ParentSquare! ParentSquare is a simple platform for receiving messages from your child's teachers, from Roosevelt, and from across Yakima School District as an email, text, or app notification. We're switching to ParentSquare (instead of Remind) because it has many more features to make communication stronger than ever.
How does ParentSquare work?
- ParentSquare automatically generates an account for each parent/guardian, using their email address and/or phone number that you've provided to us.
- You can communicate in your preferred language.
- You can also choose to receive information instantly or all at once in an evening summary.
How do I sign up?
Click here to sign up. You can also install the ParentSquare app on your phone.
If your contact details aren't recognized, call our Roosevelt office at 573-1700 to add them.
Use your email or phone number that you provided to your school and is in our system to set up your account. Otherwise ParentSquare will not be able to match your account to your student's information. Your email/phone number must match contact details in the school's database for this to work.
How can I learn more?
- Visit our YSD ParentSquare portal for more information, including Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ).
- Call our office at 573-1700 for help.
Help your child achieve in school by building the habit of good attendance. Our goal is 95% attendance—missing 1 or fewer days per month.
- Early school success goes hand in hand with good attendance.
- Starting in kindergarten, absences cause children to fall behind in reading and math.
- Missing 10 percent (or about 18 days) can make it harder to learn to read.
- Set a regular bed time and morning routine with clothes and backpacks ready the night before.
- Don’t let your child stay home unless she is sick.
- Develop back-up plans for getting to school by getting help from family, a neighbor, or friend.
- Avoid medical appointments and trips when school is in session.
- Get more tips and information here (English and Spanish).
