SLMS Titan News
Week of September 11, 2023
Welcome SLMS Parents and Guardians,
This week we remembered those we lost during 9/11 and the heroic actions by others during that time. As a campus, we observed a minute of silence in remembrance.
Thank you to the parents who came to our Volunteers in Partnership (VIP) breakfast this week. Our SLMS family NEEDs YOU! Please join our PTO and consider volunteering at our campus.
NEW information included this week:
- Titan Challenge
Sincerely,
Dr. Latoya Garrett
Principal

The campus has gone through the Onboarding process for SchooLinks. If your child was absent, the SLMS Counseling Team will follow up. One of the great things about SchooLinks, it that there is a Guardian account that links to your child’s SchooLinks account. Please see the directions for Guardians:

The 2023-2024 School Year is off to a great start! Please see some information below from our team.
Schedule Changes/Adjustments are only allowable for the following reasons:
- An error made when the original schedule was made (a boy in a girls PE class or an 8th grade student in a 7th grade Health class)
- A student is in a course he/she has already taken (in Art I, but needs Art II)
- A student has been paired with an instrument (Band/Orchestra) and needs to move class periods.
General elective changes are made during the course verification window during course selection.
We appreciate your understanding as we uphold this FBISD policy.
Level up or Down from AAC classes:
You may begin requesting level changes now. The 1st step is to contact your child’s teacher. There is a form for you to fill out. We ask that you make communication with the teacher, as well as have your child attend tutorials before requesting a level down from AAC. All schedule changes must be complete by October 27.
Gifted and Talented Referral Process is Open!

FBISD Health and Safety Protocols & How to Report Testing Positive for COVID-19
The health & safety of students, teachers, and staff is the District’s foremost priority. Students and staff should stay home when sick and if they do test positive for COVID-19 self-report using the FBISD Wellness Screener. Individuals can return to school/work once they meet the following requirements: five days have passed since the start of symptoms (if no symptoms, five days after testing positive), improvement of symptoms, and the individual has been fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications.

Please see the attached information regarding dress code.
Cell Phones Policy
Students may bring a cell phone for communication before/after school. During the school day, cell phone access is restricted and cell phones must be off and placed in backpacks. Cell phones not adhering to the school policy will be confiscated and students can pick them up at the end of the school day (for the first and second confiscation).
On the third confiscation, a parent will be required to pick up the cell phone and pay a $15 fee to SLMS. The district cell phone policy can be found in The Student Code of Conduct. Click here to access the FBISD Student Code of Conduct
If a student needs to make a phone call, we have office phones that can be accessed with permission.
Lunch Deliveries and Parent Visits During Lunch
Make sure you communicate to your student if you are going to deliver a sack style lunch.
Parents are welcome to come and eat lunch with their student. We have seperate seating available. Parents will need to check in at the front office and only bring lunch for their child.
Class Schedule
Our class schedule/bell schedule for the school year features the following:
- 7 class periods daily, with an additional Advisory period on Tuesday and Wednesday
- Monday, Thursday, and Friday will have a 7-period day (50-55 minute class periods)
- Tuesday and Wednesday will have a 7-period day (45 to 50-minute class periods) with an Advisory period between period 2 and 3. Advisory will be used as a flexible time to conduct interventions, enrichments, and campus focused lessons.
