West Point El. Parent Update
Week of March 13, 2023
Dear West Point Families,
It's hard to believe that this Thursday is the end of 3rd term. The year is flying by, and we still have many great things coming our way. Our Mary Poppins cast is busy putting together the final touches of our musical production. We would like to wish our Book Battle contestants luck during Monday's Battle of the Books, and Decathlon winners will be announced next Monday, May 20.
As we finish the school year, we would like to encourage all of our students to finish strong by being at school every day. We know we can't control sickness, but absences create holes in student learning, and we would like to ask for your help in making attendance a priority when it comes to other activities that compete.
Here are three important things to know for the coming week. We hope you have a great week!
- Please be aware of this week's schedule: Early Out on Wednesday and Thursday, No School on Friday. This Thursday is the last day of 3rd term.
- Musical tickets go on sale this Monday, March 13. Please see additional information below.
- Our Community Council is meeting this Wednesday, March 15 at 5:30 p.m. for our last meeting of the year. We will be finalizing our Teacher Student Success Plan (TSSP) for next year.
Every day is a great day to be a Wildcat!
Sincerely,
Marjorie Conrad and Michelle Yoho
Principal and Assistant Principal, West Point Elementary

School Information
Mary Poppins, Jr. Tickets
Tickets will go on sale on Monday, March 13 at 8:00 a.m. in the office. They will be $4 each, reserved seating, paid with cash, credit card, or check. Ticket sales will be ongoing until the day of the performances.
After receiving feedback from last year's show about visibility and seating, we are trying to make stage visibility a little better from the back rows. In order to do this we are going to have a slightly different seating plan. To accommodate this plan we are not going to be selling as many tickets. Please be considerate with quantity and seat location when purchasing multiple night tickets. If it is your second or third night viewing the show, please think about purchasing tickets a little farther back. All friends and family members would love to cheer for their performers!

Reinforcing School Rules and Expectations
We hope your students can tell you our basic school rules and expectations if you were to ask because we review them all year long. It is our goal that everyone feels safe, both physically and emotionally, so they can learn and thrive.
We would like to ask parents and guardians to please have a conversation with your students as well about why we have these rules and what it looks like when we are following them. We like to remind students about our KHFOOTY rule when teaching physical safety (Keep Hands Feet and Other Objects to Yourself). Another important conversation is about respect, which includes the way we treat others. The article below has excellent suggestions for how parents can teach and encourage students to be respectful. We hope you find it to be a helpful resource!
Thank you for your support!

Health Plans - Information Update
The Utah Nurse Practice Act was recently updated. School Nurses are now required to have medical confirmation of a student’s medical condition before writing and/or maintaining an Individualized Health Care Plan (IHCP). Please check your mydsd account to view your students IHCP. To continue providing your child with an IHCP, we kindly request that you provide the school with documentation that confirms your child's medical condition. This can be in the form of a doctor’s note, hospital discharge summary, Asthma Action Plan, Diabetes Medication Management Order, Seizure Medication Management Order, or Allergy Action Plan. Please either email the forms to our school nurse at nfairchild@dsdmail.net, bring them into the school, or have them faxed directly to the school 801-402-2751.
If the school does not receive the required documentation by the end August 2023, IHCP's without documentation will be inactivated. This means that your child’s healthcare needs will no longer be monitored by the school nurse, and we will not be able to provide the necessary support and care to ensure their safety and well-being during school hours. If you have previously brought in forms to our nurse or your student does not need an IHCP, please disregard. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. Please direct all questions to Nanette Fairchild RN 801-317-5094.
