New Staff Members at LHS
Brandi Atha - English
Brandi Atha is joining the faculty of Lansing High School after 19 years of teaching in Missouri.
Brandi was born in the small town of Ethel, MO (population 100!) and graduated from Macon Co. R-IV High School in New Cambria, MO. After high school, Brandi attended and graduated cum laude from Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, MO. She is currently finishing her Master’s from Southeast Missouri State. After teaching English for two years in Milan, MO, sixteen years in Savannah, MO, and one year in Kansas City, MO, Brandi is super excited to come to Lansing to teach juniors.
Brandi and her significant other, David, have lived in Lansing for just over a year. They have two dogs, Pipsqueak and Elle, and love spending time with their nieces and nephews. Brandi loves the St. Louis Cardinals, unsweet iced tea, Bitmojis, Chapstick, movies, and reading, and hates when people say PIN number.
Traci Chmidling - Math
Traci Chmidling is joining Lansing High School after spending the past 21 years teaching math at USD 500 KCK at Northwest Middle School. Traci has also taught in Wichita Public Schools and Elk Valley School districts. Her first teaching job was at Kingman High School where she taught Algebra and computer science. She earned her Bachelor of Education in Mathematics with a minor in Computer Science from Emporia State University.
As a longtime member of the Leavenworth community, she is looking forward to working closer to home. She has two girls Laura, a junior and Emily, a freshman. Her girls keep her busy going to cross country and track events. One of their favorite things to do in the summer is to go camping in the mountains of Colorado. In her free time, she enjoys reading, crocheting and puzzle games.
Monique Cribbs - Registrar
My name is Monique Cribbs and I am the new registrar for Lansing High School. As a retired military spouse, I have had a variety of jobs in different states such as a government contractor, a banker, and in retail sales. The most rewarding jobs that I have worked were in the school system. I have been a substitute teacher in Georgia, a teacher assistant in Oklahoma, a paraprofessional, an elementary school building secretary and a SIS Facilitator with the Leavenworth school district.
I am from Nashville, TN and after high school, I received my Associate degree in Computer Information Technology, and I earned my Bachelor’s degree in General Studies with a minor in Business Administration from Columbia College. I am currently working on my master’s degree at Webster University, majoring in Information Technology Management.
In my spare time, I LOVE shopping, spending quality time with my family and binge watching whatever is the new hype on NETFLIX, HULU or the OWN channel. My husband, Tommy, is retired from the Army and is a government contractor. We are the proud parents of our daughter, Morgan, who is an 8th grader at Lansing Middle School.
I am excited to start a new year in a new role at a new school where I hope to help students and families with their educational needs and with a smile.
Go LIONS!!!!
Ian Hodges - Social Studies
My name is Ian Hodges and I am excited to begin my teaching career at Lansing High School! I have previously worked as a paraeducator, substitute teacher, and basketball coach within the district. Prior to working for the Lansing school district, I worked as a paraeducator at Hays middle school while attending Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas.
I graduated from Fort Hays State University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and graduated from Kansas State University with a Master of Arts in Teaching last May.
In my free time I enjoy traveling, eating, watching sports, and hanging out with my family, friends, and cat. I am looking forward to teaching and coaching at LHS!
Rick Pollard - Adaptive PE
My name Rick Pollard and I am super excited to be Teaching and Coaching in the Lansing School District, after previous stops at Piper, Mill Valley, Pleasant Ridge and Tascosa (Amarillo, TX). I will be stepping into the role of Adaptive Physical Education and will have the honor of serving as the Head Football Coach for Lansing High School. It is also going to be exciting to continue my work as an Assistant Track Coach here at Lansing High School.
This past summer I was honored to have the opportunity to coach in the Kansas Shrine Bowl. The rest of my summer was spent here at the High School getting to know our players and getting them ready for the upcoming season.
My family and I have lived in Lansing for 16 years and have loved being part of the community. Even though the military originally brought me to the area, I graduated from Leavenworth High School and continue to love the area. After high school, I attended college on a football scholarship, graduating from Pittsburg State University. Eventually I would earn two Master Degrees from Emporia State University, in Special Education and School Administration. Coaching then took me to Texas and then back home here in Kansas.
In my spare time, I enjoy being a fan of Iowa Hawkeye athletics and watching my son play sports. I also now can add the title Papa to my resume, since I have a one year old granddaughter. My wife, Jamie, and I are both teachers and have coached most of our lives, so athletics is what steers our family. My son Jaxon attends Lansing Middle School and will be in the 8th grade. Jaxon is active in Football, Wrestling, Track, and Baseball.
Candace Scillieri - Social Science
Jeff Stebbins - Business
Bill Turley - Band
Bill Turley is delighted to join Lansing High School after fourteen years as the Director of Bands for the Bonner Springs/Edwardsville school district. Prior to his time in Bonner Springs, he was the Director of Bands at Raymore-Peculiar High School in Missouri. Bill’s first teaching job was K-12 general music and band in Quinter, Kansas. After that, he taught 3-5 general music and high school band in Grain Valley, Missouri.
Bill has also served as the director of the Bonner Springs City Band, the interim director of the Greater Kansas City American Legion Band and is active as a performer, conductor, and clinician in Kansas and Missouri.
After high school, Bill attended Drake University where he received a Bachelor of Music in Saxophone Performance with additional coursework in business and education. After working in Human Resources with the YMCA of Greater Des Moines for a year he attended Wichita State University where he received a Master of Music Education.
Outside of education, Bill enjoys refereeing soccer at the high school level, attending concerts, and reading. His wife, Amie, is an English teacher. He has two children: Beatrice is beginning studies in secondary education at the University of Alaska – Fairbanks and Charleigh is a fourth grader who loves dance classes.

Attention Parents, Staff, Students, and Community Members: YOU Can Play an Integral Part in the Future of Lansing USD469!
Lansing USD469 will begin a Strategic Plan Process in September 2022 to outline what our district wants to achieve in the future and how we plan to get there. Community involvement is imperative to this process, so we are asking parents, students, staff, and community members to consider volunteering their time to participate in the Lansing USD469 Strategic Plan Process.
If interested, the time commitment will be two full days. The first day will be Monday, September 19, and the second day will be announced soon.
Email sharon.burns@usd469.net if you are available on these two dates and are interested in being considered for helping shape the future of Lansing USD469.
Meeting 1: Monday, September 19
- Participants will hear updates on “State of the School District” so all participants have similar background information to prepare them for the activities that will be completed through the process.
- Participants will move through facilitated stations throughout the day to provide feedback and ask questions. Stations include:
- Review of student performance data
- Review of other strategic plans to provide feedback and review examples
- Discussion of needs related to staffing, recruitment, and retention
- Discussion of student success and school improvement/accreditation initiatives
- Discussion of district/community communication efforts
- Feedback from these breakouts will be reviewed in order to determine key areas of focus or “Goal Areas.”
Meeting 2: TBD
- Participants will work in one of the determined focus area committees and will help develop action steps and measurable success criteria to ensure the district is taking clear action steps to achieve goal areas.
- Groups will share their recommended action steps and seek feedback from other groups
