AP Language and Composition 11
Updates and Reminders for Students and Families
AP Language and Composition Exam
The best review strategies for the exam are the repeated application of skills that students have learned this year. The most important preparation strategy is to ensure that our students get enough sleep in the coming weeks. Limiting student access to electronic devices will make a difference in the quality and quantity of their rest. Thanks for all of your support!
Admission to the Service Academies
Information from Heinrich's office:
Between now and October 14, 2016 my office will be accepting applications from high school students and recent graduates seeking a service academy nomination. Being nominated is a significant honor and the application process is rigorous.
In order to provide students with information needed to apply for a service academy nomination, my staff will be on hand to answer questions at a series of information sessions at convenient locations across the state. These information sessions give prospective applicants and their families the opportunity to speak with representatives from each military service academy and in-state ROTC programs. It also allows applicants to speak to my staff and learn what is required to submit an application to my office.
Each academy prides itself on producing our nation's next generation of military leaders. Four of the five service academies--U.S. Military Academy (West Point), U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy--require a Congressional, Vice-Presidential, or service-connected nomination. The U.S. Coast Guard Academy does not require a nomination.

Boys and Girls State
I strongly urge interested students to apply for the American Legion sponsored Boys and Girls State programs. These programs are an excellent way to introduce students to the workings of government and through these programs students are eligible for scholarship opportunities. The programs are free of charge.

The film looks at the history of education and how access to information today has changed the landscape. The trailer can be viewed online at https://vimeo.com/122502930.
The film, from One Potato Productions, was the Official Selection of the 2015 Sundance Film Festival.
AP Language and Composition Final Exam
I realize that students may have to miss class to attend NMAA sanctioned competitions but that should be the only reason that a student misses class that week. Students who know they will be absent must schedule an exam session prior to their absence. Students who are ill should plan on bringing in a doctor's note in order to reschedule an exam session. Thank you again for all of your support!
