May 2023
From the Admin Team
Please join us in celebrating our staff the week of May 8th. May 8th – May 12th has been designated as Teacher Appreciation Week. We have the most amazing staff and want to be sure we let them know it! Consider writing a note of gratitude to a staff member, having your child draw a picture or write a letter, or possibly sending in a small token to show your gratitude. Our staff goes above and beyond to support our students, so let’s show them how much they are appreciated!!
Our Spring testing season begins this month with our grade 3-5 students taking Math & ELA MCAP. All grade 3-5 students will start testing on Monday, May 1, through Friday, May 12, 2023. Testing will begin promptly at 9:30 am and conclude around 11:30 am each morning. Students will not be admitted into testing sessions after they have begun so please make sure your child arrives on time for school. Please encourage your child to get a good night’s sleep and try their best each day. All grade 3-5 students that put forth their best effort on the test each day will earn a field trip to Amped Up!

Partner Spotlight- Church of the Harbor Essex
What is the story of CoH Essex?
Church of the Harbor launched in 2016 when a team of three families with a heart to reach the marginalized came to Baltimore. Our church initially gathered in a Baltimore City row home, then moved to a church building in Dundalk, and in 2018, we obtained our current space in Essex. Although we have changed locations, our heart to love and serve people, including those struggling with issues such as poverty and addiction, has remained and is reflected in our mission statement, 'Truth. Love. Jesus.'
What have been your favorite memories supporting Sandalwood?
Our favorite memories are centered around connecting and building relationships with people in the community. Whether at one of our block parties, helping at a school event, or hosting a movie night, it has truly been a joy to hear people's stories and get to know them in real ways. We are also thankful for the opportunity to connect with and support Sandalwood teachers and faculty. We believe that healthy families are crucial to building healthy communities, so being able to partner with individuals who have devoted themselves to pouring into students and their families has been an incredible privilege.
Is there anything else you would like to share with the Sandalwood community?
Our desire to love, support, and build relationships with people in our community remains a central value of our church. In addition to our community events, some of the ways that we intentionally strive to meet the needs of our neighbors is through our food pantry, Anchor Thrift store, clothing drives, and service projects for those in need. We also gather on Sundays at 9:30 and 11:00 am, which is a great time for people to get to know us.
