Trash Bash T-Shirt Design Winner!
Each year the City of Burleson holds a Trash Bash and Earth Celebration. Before the scheduled event, the city receives entries of t-shirt designs from students in BISD. Mrs. Elizondo, one of Hughes' art teacher, has her students submit entries in to the contest. Each year, for the past 4 years, one of her students has won the contest. This year is no different.
Bethany Beardsley, an Art 2 student, created and submitted a design. Her design was selected from the entries and is now printed on all the volunteer shirts for the event.
Congratulations Bethany!!!!
Below are details of the Trash Bash event:
April 28, 2018
9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Warren Park, 301 S.W. Johnson Ave.
Cost is Free
Volunteers of all ages meet at Warren Park (across from the library) and get their trash bags and litter picker uppers. Then they head out to remove litter and debris from retail corridors, waterways, drainage channels, streets, parks, and other public areas. Youth participants are enthusiastically welcomed but must have adult supervision. Following the cleanup there will be pizza, a raffle, activities, booths, and more.
HEB Plastic Bag Collection Winners
Hughes Middle School, with the help of H-E-B, showed their support for Earth Day 2018 by collecting plastic bags all week long from Monday April 16th through Friday April 20th. On Friday afternoon a total of 5008 bags were collected and given to H-E-B. H-E-B will be recycling the bags. Each school that participated received a $150 gift card.
The winners for collecting the most bags were Mrs. Kleeman's and Mrs. Phillip's. They will get to choose a day to go outside during their Pack class to chill and enjoy the beautiful Spring weather along with their choice of a soft drink and a special treat.

Workman's Compensation
The Benefits Department has requested that all work related injuries be routed through the campus nurses so that either the appropriate paperwork can be started for Workman’s Comp or so that the employee can complete the appropriate form to deny services. The nurses have all of this paperwork and have just received a reminder email about the importance of completing the paperwork.
The need to follow these procedures is imperative so that you receive the appropriate care and benefits and so that the district has all of the required documentation should a claim be received.
