THE THREE HOOTS

HOMEWORK
Families,
For the month of March the homework will look a bit differently. We will not be having weekly homework given on Friday and due on Wednesday. Instead, there will be things your child should be working on every night.
READING! As a school we are celebrating March-Into-Reading. As your child reads, please fill out the bookmarks and return them to school on Thursdays. Read, read, read!! My wish is that EVERY child is reading EVERY night! We are also getting ready for our next share.
PRACTICE MATH FACTS- The Rocket Math comes home every evening. This is for your child to practice at home.
- SPELLING- Word lists are given on Friday and the test is the following Friday.
Math
We are in our measurement unit and are currently focussing on telling time to the nearest minute. We will be moving into solving word problems involving elapsed time later this week. Anything you can do at home to practice telling time to the nearest minute would be very helpful.
Please note that it is extremely important to keep practicing multiplication and division facts. The multiplication table is located on the back of the homework folders for the students to work towards memorizing their facts. Please take time to help your child in memorizing these.
Language Arts
Along with our anthology we will also be completing an author study about Laura Ingalls Wilder. We will be reading and discussing Little House in the Big Woods as a class. It was Laura Ingalls Wilder's first book published. The story is based on memories of her early childhood in the Big Woods near Pepin, Wisconsin, in the early 1870s. At the end of March we will have a Laura Ingalls Wilder celebration. More details will be shared soon.

HOMEWORK
Homework was handed out today and is due back on the next Wednesday.
In addition to weekly homework, we will also require a monthly reading calendar. Reading calendars will be due at the beginning of each month. Each month your child will be required to read a set amount of minutes. The MARCH reading calendar will be due on March 30! That way we can have all our reading minutes turned into the office.
iPad Reminders:
*Find a safe location where the iPad can be housed each time it is home and not being used.
*The iPad is an educational tool, even though the school has a strong blocker, you should ALWAYS be aware of what your child is doing on the iPad.
