Second Grade News
Week of January 16
Reading/Language Arts
- This week in reading, we are focusing on the difference between facts and opinions. We are learning to support our opinions about certain characters with text based evidence. This week we are putting the "Big, Bad Wolf" on trial. Each person must support their opinion on whether or not the wolf is really bad.
- This week we are learning what compound words are. Quiz your child to see how many compound words they can find in their reading OR how many words they know that can be made into compound words.
Math
We are working through our geometry unit. This week we are focusing on congruent versus similar shapes, as well as, transformations. The students will be working on making their own unique person using congruent and similar shapes (due Friday).
Social Studies
The past couple of weeks, we have been talking about what it means to treat someone fairly. We have been talking about why Abraham Lincoln is important to our country and how he contributed in making the USA a better place.
This week we are focusing on Martin Luther King, Jr.'s legacy and what it means to stand up for what is right.

Reminders
- Please make sure your kiddo is bringing their reading log back every day! I want to be able to give them a link to add to our paper chain for the amount of time they have read. So far as a class we have read a total of 15 hours! AMAZING!!
- Be sure to have your child practice one spelling activity of their choice and bring it back to school the next day.
- As your child is reading, have them keep a tally chart of their sight words.
