The Sick Rose
O Rose, thou art sick.
The invisible worm
That flies in the night
The howling storm
Has found out thy bed
Of crimson joy,
And his dark secret love
Does thy life destroy.
William Blake
William Blake was an English poet and painter. He was born November 28, 1757 and died August 12, 1827. He was largely unrecognised during his lifetime. Blake is now considered a cornerstone figure of the Romantic Age.
The meaning of A Sick Rose
It is believed that A Sick Rose was written for Blake's mother, who was dying of cancer.
