Cambridge High School
December 9, 2022
Winter Break
The second Semester begins Wednesday, January 4.
- Please ensure your students take home anything they may need over the break.
- If your student plans to get their driver's permit or license over the holiday, please request certificates of enrollment or replacement ADAP certificates so that they can be ready for your student to pick up before the school closes for the break. To order these items, visit "Forms" at www.cambridgehs.org > Quick Links > Frequently Requested Forms.
- The counseling office is also closed, and no transcripts, documents, or emails will be processed until after the Winter Break. Students, please plan accordingly if requests are needed from your counselor.
Week of December 12, 2022
Monday and Tuesday are regular academic days, and teachers may give minor assessments or practice assessments on these days. All Grades will be entered, and student grades will be provided in each class on December 13 to determine if Recovery is needed before the end of the semester. Attendance will be taken on these days. Note that pre-approved absences cannot be given on the last week of the semester.
Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday are half-days, and students who need to recover from the last major assessment or have some type of recovery assessment will report, by period, on the appropriate half-day. Students eligible for Recovery but do not report on the required half day(s) forfeit their opportunity to recover their grade. There will be no “makeup” recovery options in January.
Wednesday, December 14: Recovery for 1st and 2nd periods
Thursday, December 15: Recovery for 3rd and 4th periods
Friday, December 16: Recovery for 5th and 6th periods
Attendance will only be taken for the students attending the half days. Students not participating in Recovery for any of these periods do not need to report to school on these days. Students who wish to arrive later (for the second session) or leave early after completing the first session do not need to check in or out, and students must have their own transportation. Students who ride the bus must remain on campus during these periods and will report to the cafeteria.
Half days begin at 8:20 am and conclude at 12:40 pm. A grab-and-go lunch will be provided, and buses will leave promptly at 12:45 pm.
Mathematics Night - Informational Meeting
The State of Georgia is decommissioning the Georgia Standards of Excellence and has adopted Georgia's K-12 Mathematics Standards beginning the 2023-2024 school year. Although each mathematics teacher will explain placement options and provide academic guidance to his or her students during the pre-registration process in January, we would like to invite each family to the Mathematics Night at Cambridge High School on Thursday, December 15, 2022, from 6:00 – 7:00 PM in the Media Center.
The purpose of this meeting is to provide families with an overview of the new mathematics curriculum, share the transition plan for ensuring that students have access to important mathematical skills and concepts as we retire one stable of courses and initiate new ones, and discuss the various pathways to graduation as afforded by the new curriculum. There will also be a Question-and-Answer period at the end of the presentation.

Junior Meetings - Time is Running Out
Juniors who have not scheduled a meeting with their counselor for their Junior Meeting should schedule an appointment as soon as possible. Counselors have met with all juniors to review graduation requirements, plan next year's classes, and discuss post-secondary options. Each junior will schedule one in-person, 30-minute meeting. Parents and guardians are invited to join the meetings via Teams, and a Teams invite will be sent via email to the emails listed on the meeting request. These meetings will conclude in January.
Before the meeting, juniors and parents/guardians are asked to review the informational video – A Guide to the Next Step, before the meeting. In addition, juniors are asked to complete the following action items in Naviance.
- Complete the SuperMatch college search and save at least three colleges.
- Complete the Junior Survey and Bridge Bill tasks. Please note that the State of Georgia requires these tasks.
Directions for completing the Naviance action items can be found on the Naviance instructions for juniors. To schedule a junior meeting, use the link below for your counselor.

Teacher Supplies Needed - Updated
Bringing Food/Candy to School
As we approach the upcoming holidays, it is important to remind parents and families that candy, desserts, baked goods (store-bought/homemade), or any other edible items are not to be sold or distributed at school or on the bus unless approved in advance by the school administration. Per our Student Code of Conduct, students who do not adhere to this expectation are subject to disciplinary action for violation 7A: Failure to Follow Rules, and all candy or food items will be confiscated.
Please discuss this expectation and possible consequences with your student(s), as this will be taken very seriously. This is due to recent national and state reports about students sharing edible items and synthetic medications with other students that contain very harmful substances.
Taking these measures will help us maintain a safe environment for all students. You can help us protect your student(s) by requesting that they not eat anything given to them by another person, anything they have not brought from your home, or anything not in its original sealed package. Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping our students safe at school!
Food Deliveries and Left Items
Parents who wish to drop off student items (lunch, textbooks, gym bags, etc.) must bring the item to the front of the school and leave the labeled item on the cart outside the doors for student pickup. Students cannot wait outside or leave the building to meet a parent during school hours. Students must pick up these items between classes and before lunch. Students will not be dismissed from class or the cafeteria to pick up items.
Students are not permitted to order items for delivery to the school. Deliveries of food, flowers, balloons, etc., for students are not allowed (even if paid). All deliveries will be refused, and food deliveries will be confiscated without a refund. We love celebrating our students, but outside delivery personnel poses a security risk to our building, students, and staff; therefore, no deliveries will be accepted.
This information can be found in the Parent and Student Handbook on page 27.
