All In, Mt. Gallant!

How We Win:

  • Building and sustaining relationships with students, parents, and colleagues
  • Improving our core instruction in the areas of Guided Reading, Lucy Calkins' writing, and Number Talks.
  • Personalizing the MGES experience and learning for each child

Teachers as Mentors

We all know that a consistent and nurturing relationship with a mentor fosters a child's ability to learn. The purpose of a mentor/student relationship is to provide a supportive adult role model who will encourage student social and emotional development, help improve academic achievement , redirect students from at risk behaviors and foster improved self-esteem.

We are going to start a mentor program at Mt. Gallant this year with discipline repeat offenders. We are doing something different by pairing students with teachers as mentors. This is a volunteer program. Staff members will be assigned a student from another grade and class. You could check in with that student in the morning, at lunch, or the end of the day. You could even schedule the student to come by your room once a week to check in with you. Once a week would be all that is needed, but you could also send notes of encouragement and other surprises during the year.

Please email Gail if you are interested in participating in our Teacher Mentor program.

Thanks,

Gail

Family Literacy Night - March 3rd - 5:30 - 6:30pm

During Read Across America Week, we are planning a family night on March 3rd. The plans so far are:
  • Second grade performance
  • Self-run family activities
  • Book Fair
  • Refreshments for sale

The idea is that the rotations will be completely parent-led. If you would like to volunteer that night, please let Melisa know. We'd love to have you!

Reading Coach's Corner

Please plan to use your PLC time on Wed (K-2) and Thurs. (3-5) to plan next week’s writing mini-lessons. I will stop by during the last 15 mins. for us to examine and discuss monthly guided reading levels.
